He shook his head, and I knew what I was about to do. It was as though he knew more about me than I knew of myself.

Of course, he knew what I was about to do and his palm splayed across my stomach, ready to cast magic to fight me off if I’d tried to shake him off, but I wasn’t a fool. He taught me that. And as anger burned a line through my limbs as I comprehended what he’d done. What we’d done. He’d invaded my mind, my thoughts, my damn libido.

Use your eyes.

He was always looking at me, which made it easy, and as he collapsed, he knew I won this round. My magic immobilised his power and his wings dropped as they lost their strength and he weakened under my spell. His body dropped on top of mine. I wiggled myself off his knot and once I was free, I pushed him to one side.

I scrambled off the bed. “Sorry Blake,” I said. I knew I had to be quick.

His eyes opened wide as he stared at me.

“Lacey,” he yelled.

But he couldn’t move, and he knew I was about to leave him.

I dropped my head back and stared at the ceiling, then knew time was key and turned the cold water in the bathroom to full blast. Cupping cold water in my palms, just a splash of water that was refreshingly cool against my feverish face was enough to shock me back to reality. What I’d just done.

Bracing my hands on the sink, I stewed in my own thoughts as I mused about him out there.

Move it, Lacey.

I dashed out of the bathroom and sighed; he was still there as I considered my plan.

Where the fuck was I?

We sifted here.

I never took my eyes off him the entire time I dressed. But now I wished I had brought a pair of leggings and a sweatshirt, instead of the skirts and boots I brought with me. But my dress wear was okay.

Anything was okay. I needed to get home.

I opened my bag and took out my mobile. There was no service.

I kissed his cheek. “Why couldn’t you make this easy?”

“Lacey,” he growled. Using his savage voice wasn’t going to me stay.

“I’ll lift the spell once I’m home,” I said. The spell still paralysed him on the bed as I left, but when he grinned, it spiked my fear. I suddenly had the urge to flee.

But leaving him wasn't as easy as I expected. I searched and searched, but I couldn’t find the keys to his car, which meant I had no other choice and had to make a run for it. I could run quick after all.

I only had to get to the main road and then my phone would work to call Kane and Seb. I popped my phone in bag and left yesterday’s clothes at Blake’s home, needing to travel light for I didn’t know the length of the journey to the road.

I slung the crossover bag over my shoulder and returned to Blake, who laid prone on the bed. “I love you and I love them, but I’m not sure how we're going to deal with that.”

“I don’t share Lacey,” he said, shaking his head as though that was his definitive answer and I should just accept it. He laid motionless on a bed and he was still telling me how it would work.

“If you want it to work. You’re going to have to, and so are the others. Otherwise we come to a compromise or go to war. I don’t want to die again. I have a child now, and neither do Seb and Kane, and I know they will accept you. So, we are out of options. Unless you’re prepared for me to die and come back in hundreds of years’ time and try again, you need to think about what you can put up with.”

His eyes narrowed and what I thought was confusion in his gaze turned to anger. “I’m the fucking dark king. I don’t need to accept anything.”

“You’ve gone out of your way this time, Blake, or do you prefer Deven?” I asked, lowering my eyes to him. “Somehow, you trained to be my knight. Then you kept up the pretence and enrolled yourself as a medical student. You lied to me, telling me you were an angel. Those are not the actions of someone who is not prepared to accept more changes. You accepted changes a long time ago.”

“I told you I’d do anything to make you mine.”

“And I told you I’d do anything to protect my knights, and that includes them not losing me.”

“You’re mine, Lacey.”
