“You…what? You hit him? You did this to him?” Holly’s voice is quiet, almost as if she can’t believe her own family would knock her husband out cold.

“I’m sorry, Holly.” Reilly wraps her arms around her twin.

The doc walks into the room, and I clear it. “Everyone out.” I need to get control of this situation. If there is something more serious going on with T, I can’t let that information fall on anyone else’s ears.

Angelica, who has been quietly observing everything, glances from me to the current crowd of onlookers. “You heard him. Get the hell out and let the doctor do his job.”

Fucking hell. I’ve avoided looking at T’s motionless form sprawled out on the bed. I can’t even think of what would happen if he doesn’t wake up soon. I’m the underboss, because I’ll do anything for him. He’s not just my cousin; he’s my best friend. I can’t do life without him. I don’t want to imagine what that would look like.

I pull Holly out of Reilly’s arms and whisper in her ear, “You need to get them to leave before I do. This isfamilybusiness.”

Holly considers my words for a moment before she asks her sister and brother-in-law to wait downstairs.

After an hour, T finally comes back to the world of the living. I didn’t tell Holly how fucking scared I was during that stretch of time. I’ve never seen him out of it for that long before. Ever.

Now that he’s awake and flat-out told me I wasn’t allowed to gouge Bray’s eyes out, ortear his limbs from his body, I’m searching through the house for my angel. I finally find her in the pool. In a fucking yellow bikini. Izzy is sitting on a sun lounger, reading a book nearby, as Angelica swims laps. As much as I want to get into that pool and tug on the strings of that swimsuit, I don’t think it’d be a good idea with her daughter a few feet away.

So, instead, I find myself sitting on the sun lounger next to the little girl. “What are you reading?” I ask her.

She holds up the front of the paperback. “Only the best book ever made.” She gestures to the title:Unicorns Under the Rainbow.

Deciding I know nothing about unicorns, or rainbows for that matter, I change the subject. “Why aren’t you swimming with your mom?”

Izzy shrugs and looks away without answering.

“You don’t like swimming?” I pry again.

“Not really. I’d rather sit here and read.”

“Okay.” I look towards the pool and watch as Angelica pulls herself out of the water. Then, glancing around, I give the men assigned to patrolling the grounds a death glare as they stare at my angel.

Angelica approaches us and picks up a towel, wrapping it around herself. I’m conflicted. I don’t want her wrapping up that body. I want to keep looking. Then again, at least with a towel around her, no one else out here can see what’s mine.

“You look like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders, Neo.” Angelica smiles as she sits on the sun lounger with Izzy.

“Maybe I do?”

“Maybe. How’s Theo?”

“He’s fine. Awake, with a bit of a headache, but he’ll survive.”

“Can I go see Uncle T now, Mama?” Izzy bounces up.

“Sure you can. Do me a favor, Bel, and tell him all about your unicorn book. I happen to know he loves unicorns,” I answer for Angelica.

Izzy tilts her head at me, pondering my words. “Okay, but I know Uncle T doesn’t really care about unicorns.” With that, she bounces up and runs towards the house.

I nod to one of the guards. “Ensure she makes it to the boss’s room.”

“Sure thing.” He follows Izzy inside.

Angelica stares into the house after her daughter. Pushing to my feet, I pull my angel to hers. “Come on.”

Chapter Ten

“Where are we going?” I ask Neo’s back as he pulls me into the house.
