Artie and I sat there, in complete shock and silence as this went on with eight more girls. I felt like I should do something, but what? Another girl was dragged out, and another brought in. I had turned away, I couldn't watch it anymore. But I heard Artie gasp. Saw him rise to his feet, running up to the glass. I turned and saw Charlie standing in the room. I sat up and looked at dad. He had that evil smile on his face again. “Now son, do you know her?” He asked.

“What the hell dad? Let her go.” Artie turned, fear on his face.

“Sorry, she will be going to the highest bidder.” He turned and looked at the men. “You see, my oldest son here thought he could date a town girl behind my back. He thought he could just do whatever he wanted and that I wouldn't find out.” He turned back to Artie. “I know all, see all, control all. I told you, get what you need from whomever you need it. But don't date them. We marry women in our world. AND YOU DON'T KEEP THINGS FROM THE FAMILY.”

Artie’s hand clenched into fists at his side. “Fine!” He yelled through gritted teeth. “Let her go, this is not her fault.”

“Sorry son, she goes to the highest bidder, where she will be sold to men over and over again until they break her.” Dad grabbed the back of Artie’s neck and swung him around to face the glass. “Take a good look. This is the last time you will ever see her. You did this to her, it is your fault she will now become a sex slave to whatever men fancy her.” He threw Artie to the ground. “Over and over they will strip her of her innocence. And it’s your fault.”

Artie banged on the glass. “Charlie! I will find you. I’m sorry, I am so sorry.”

Charlie started crying, looking at the glass. “Arturo? Is that you?” She sobbed. “Help me.” The man grabbed her face covering it as he pulled her back out, she tried to fight to get away from him, but it was useless.

I sat there, fighting back tears, fighting the urge to punch my dad in the face.

”Get them out of here! I will see you two after I am finished with my business.” Dad yelled.

Maximo grabbed my arm and then Arties.

Artie and I both jerked away from him. “I can fucking walk!” Artie yelled.

He pushed us forward, back to the stairs, and outside the bar. Artie’s car was sitting out front. The man standing out front letting people in handed Artie his keys. Maximo looked at us. “You go straight home and wait for your dad in his office.” He turned and walked back inside.

We both climbed in, the silence between the two of us as we drove back home. We pulled up next to the house, climbing out. “Artie, you okay?”

He shook his head, turned, and started punching the house. The brick tearing his knuckles up, blood pouring from his hands.

“Artie, STOP!” I put my arms behind him, pulling him away from the house.

He shoved me away. “One day I am going to find her and rescue her. And when I do, I am going to make him pay. Do you hear me, Luka? I’m going to fucking kill him.”

“We’ll find her. No matter how long it takes. And then we’ll kill him together.” I pulled him into a hug. “Somehow, someday, we will find Charlie and put a stop to what we saw tonight.”

He pulled away, grabbing my face in his hands. “We have each other's backs no matter what.”

“You and me against the world. La Famiglia è Tutto.”
