“What, do you think you could do better?” She challenged me.

“Well now me against you, that wouldn't be fair now, would it? Especially since you just wore yourself out, taking down micro dick over here.” The guys around us snickered.

“Oh,” she smiled and walked up, getting right in front of me, “you’re scared, aren't you?” She put her hand on my chest. “Scared you'll get your ass kicked by a girl in front of all these guys.”

I looked down at her. “First one to pin the other wins?”

She nodded and backed up. I walked towards her, the two of us circling one another. I lunged forward, trying to grab her. She jumped back. She stepped forward swinging with her right, but I grabbed her hand and spun her around. Wrapping my arms around her, pulling her arms into her body. “Gotcha now, wife.” I gripped onto her tight as she bent forward trying to loosen my grip. I slowly lowered her down as she fought, trying to pry herself from my death grip. I got down to my knees, pulling her down with me. I grabbed her forearm in my hand, swinging her around to her back, ready to pin her down.

She jerked, and rolled onto her back, kicking her legs over and around my torso so fast I didn’t even see it coming. She knocked me down on my back and rolled on top of me. Hands pinned above my head, straddling my torso. My arms were pinned in such a way I couldn't move them. She looked down at me, her face hard. The guys were laughing and clapping around us. She leaned down, to my face. Her lips were so close to mine I could feel her breath. “You underestimate me, just like everyone else.” She leaned in further, her lips barely connecting with my lips. “Stop calling me wife.” She stood up hovering over me for a moment. “Enjoy the rest of your tour.”

She turned and walked off. Nick walked over, offering me his hand, jerking me up. I watched her, walking back to the locker room. “She is a force to be reckoned with.”

Nick patted my shoulder. “You have no idea. Let's hit the showers and I will show you the rest of the complex.”

She turned around as she got to the door and looked at me for a moment before disappearing behind it. I just had my ass handed to me by a woman. I should feel emasculated, my ego should be bruised. But it wasn't, I thought it was hot. She continued to surprise me.

I showered in the locker room and followed Nick as he showed me a building they used for special cases. It had several rooms they used to get information or just to scare people. I looked down a long hallway. At the end was a huge metal door, a keypad next to it. “What’s down there?”

Nick shook his head. “Above my pay grade man.” I nodded and followed him out as we made our way back to the house. “No one is really happy you’re here.”

I looked at him. “No kidding.”

“I was pissed when I found out too. But I heard about how you stood up for Al with Gabriele today, and for that reason, I am being cordial. But not everyone feels the same. No one, and I mean no one thinks you should run this family when the time comes. Least of all Gabriele.”

“You think I don't know that?”

“Then why did you agree to it?”

“What alternative did I have? Go against Vigo, in front of the entire council?” I laughed and shook my head. “That would have gone well. I don’t know what game is being played here, and I have no idea who is pulling the strings. But something is up, and for whatever reason, they are using me and Alora to their benefit. A son to a Don never gets married to a daughter and joins their family, that doesn't happen. Usually, in situations like these, your dad or you would have been the next in line.”

Nick nodded. “Yeah, my dad and I have been talking about that too.”

“And you guys know nothing?”

“No, we don’t. But honestly, even if I did, I wouldn't tell you.”

“Fair enough. I wouldn't tell you either.”

We walked the rest of the way in silence. “Listen, Alora has had a rough life.”

“We’ve all had it tough.”

He shook his head. “Not like her. Just,” he sighed, “if you hurt her in any way. I will kill you.”

“Understood.” I walked into the house and up to the bedroom. My boxes were gone. I looked around and noticed there was a new dresser. I walked over and opened the drawers, some of my clothes in there. I walked over to the closet, the rest hung up. The bathroom door opened and she walked out in a black dress falling above her knees, her shoulders bare.

She looked at me then sat down at her vanity. “Vigo wants us to meet him for dinner in an hour.” She pulled out some make-up, blotting it on her fingertips.

“Just you and I?”

“Yes.”

“Okay.” I turned and walked to the closet, grabbing a red tie. I walked to the long mirror on the closet wall and tied it around my neck. I folded my collar down and straightened my suit jacket. I walked back out, she was still applying make-up. Trying to cover the bruise on her cheek. She sighed and threw the foundation down.

I walked over. “Here.” I knelt in front of her. “You can’t use your fingers, it won't blend right.” I dug through the makeup in her drawer and found one that looked like the yellow crap mom would use. “Mom uses this.” I put some of the brown crap on a sponge and blended it into her face. She breathed in through her teeth. I flinched and pulled away. “Sorry, it probably hurts worse now after taking that right hook to the face huh?” She nodded. I continued to gently blot the sponge on her face.

She looked into my eyes, a strange look on her face. She glanced in the mirror and then grabbed the sponge from my hand. “I can finish.”
