Shelookedatme for a moment, then stared at the ceiling. A look on her face I couldn’t read. Was it regret? “You good?” She nodded. I stood up and walked to the bathroom. Turning on the water in the sink, getting it warm, and wetting a washcloth. I washed myself, then wet another cloth. I walked back into the room, over to the bed. “Here,” I said with a smile.

She snatched it from me and rolled her eyes. “Sex only, remember? I told you I don’t need you to take care of me.” She wiped herself, slowly rolling off the bed, and picked up her clothes. “I told you, don't catch feelings.”

“But how on earth will I be able to control myself with your shining personality?” I smiled wide, showing my teeth?

She scrunched her face, shaking her head as she slowly walked into the bathroom, closing the door behind her. I laughed and shook my head, putting my boxers back on. I picked up my clothes and crawled into the bed.

A few minutes later she walked out and looked at me. “I guess I am taking the chair?”

“It’s a king bed, there is plenty of room for both of us.” I patted the bed beside me, raising my eyebrows.

“Fine but don't touch me, we will not be cuddling.”

“I will try my best to resist.”

She sighed and walked over, flipping off the light switch. Her walk was a little slower than normal, had I gone too hard? She climbed in, scooting down and pulling the covers over herself.

“You alright?”

“I’m fine,” she huffed, turning her back to me.

I turned the bedside lamp off. “Goodnight, dear.” I chuckled to myself as she sighed and pulled the covers higher.

“He took off this morning. I feel like something is happening.” Arturo said, as Alora and I sat at the table eating breakfast.

“What makes you think that,” I asked?

He shook his head. “Just a feeling.”

I nodded. “Tell me what you know about this Wrath.”

”Not much,” Arturo answered, “he has kind of fallen off the radar over the last week. No killings.” “Gianni thinks it might be the calm before the storm.”

“But you still have no idea who this person is,” Alora chimed in, “or anything about them?”

Arturo shook his head. “No, and from everything I have heard, no one else does either.”

I sat back in my seat. “It feels like dead end after dead end.”

“We’ll find him,” Arturo leaned in, “but if I’m being honest. I kinda like the guy. From what I am hearing, he’s taking out people directly linked to trafficking.”

“Gianni told us that, he thinks it might be a taking out the competition thing though.”

“Well, let them implode from the inside out for all I care,” Arturo threw his fork down on his plate. “I’m not hungry.” He stood up and started towards the door.

“You’re done already?” Mom asked as she walked in.

Arturo kissed her forehead, “just not very hungry.”

“Don't starve yourself,” she patted his cheek, then joined us at the table. “Alora sweetheart, how did you sleep?”

“I slept great,” Alora smiled at her with a very genuine smile. It was rare to see her smile. She would smile and laugh with Nick and give her uncle a smile when her dad wasn’t around. But other than that, it was a rare occurrence. I longed to be the one to make her smile like that, to make her laugh. Any smile my way seemed forced and fake like she was mocking me.

“What are you up to today?” mom asked as she filled her plate.

“No big plans today, possibly something tonight,” I informed her. “What about you?”
