“Sounds like I really do need to get changed. Leggings, an oversized shirt, flip flops, and a messy bun may be a tad underdressed.” She giggles, still full of excitement. “I’ll text Cuy and ask him when they are leaving so we can head over.”

“We, as in, you and me? I have never been on that floor. They only let people up to the first floor, and no girls besides Lux go up there or any other floors.”

“Yes we, I live there, and they can’t stop me. I’m just avoiding them right now because they all saw me naked.” I pull out my phone while she rambles about my embarrassment.

I flick Cuy a message and ask what time they are leaving, and I’m not left waiting long as he messages back straight away.

Cuyler:In about an hour : )

Me:Thnx

“We have an hour to kill, so pack a bag, and we can get food on the way. I'm starved, and I promise to fill you in on my being naked in front of everyone.”

I’ve never seen a girl move so fast. I like that she doesn’t fuss over an outfit choice, she just stuffs things in her bag and slips her feet into a worn pair of vans. We head out to her buggy and make our way to eat.

Chapter Fourteen

Diesel

The overhead lights blast down on the centre of the ring, and the stale smell of sweat and blood lingers in the room. Fights are held on my property, my father revamped the old space earlier generations had used. This warehouse-style venue can hold more people, which means more money can be made. Tonight is a formality to start off fight night with a bang. The juniors will fight next week, and they get to have fun and fight for a girl they want to have power over, date or a business connection for their father. We have all done it in the past when it suited us, but now as seniors, it’s more serious. Tonight gives me an advantage to see how the fights play out. I already have the advantage of being at the top of the leader board.

‘Lose yourself’ by Eminem comes screaming from the speakers as Wilder starts bouncing on his toes, with fight night coming to an end. Cuyler just KO’d some kid, a waste of a fight if you ask me. I have no idea why he even bothers to fight for that bitch Blaine, she has the personality of a cardboard box. I know he wanted to fight for Cyrus, I could see it in his face, but if he even thought about it longer than one second, he would be the one out cold. Some people might not understand the fights, but that’s on them. Girls cause nothing but drama, and if you win one in a fight, she is yours, plain and simple, to do with as you please. No one can question you. The last fights are usually late July to early August, long enough for contracts to be signed, weddings to be planned, and deals to be made. If you’re not from one of the richest families within Australia or even the world, the thought of this would seem over the fucking top, and maybe it is. But securing your money and business means making ties to another wealthy family. They know what’s expected. They don’t question the way things are done, we just do what we have to in order to survive and stay on top.

The fight of the night so far was Rogue and Ryot. Everyone knows Ryot has a thing for Lux, has for years, and this year he had the balls to fight his brother for her and won. Rogue stormed out like a little bitch to lick his wounds. He still hasn’t lost; his rank will determine the outcome, but for now, he needs to back off and continue fighting to keep his points up. If he can outpoint his brother, he can have one last chance to fight for her.

I do the rounds through the VIP section my father has set up. I spot Rhys and his friends seated around a table, laughing. They’re all wearing ridiculous shirts, and fuck, I hope I don’t grow up to be as lame as that. Rhys jumps up from his seat when I approach the table.

“Looking forward to getting your hands bloody?”

“You know me, Rhys, what’s the point in a KO if I don’t play with them first.”

He laughs at me, his damn shirt says ‘My Last Night of Freedom’.

A tall, well put together guy, that honestly seems more like one of my father’s friends than Rhys’, extends his hand. “Arden.”

“Diesel. Where is your shirt?”

The rest of the table laughs and makes him turn around. It says ‘If lost, return to The Groom Squad’.

I raise a brow at Rhys, but everyone at the table stands and turns around, the back of their shirts say Groom Squad.

“I will introduce you to the guys. This is Chase,” his shirt says, ‘Drinking Well With Others’.

“Pace.” His shirt says ‘Team Day Drunk’.

“Camden, Chad, Smalls.” I shake my head, the guy is far from small.

“Rory, Mercer, Levi, and Rocky, my brother Hayden.”

I stop reading their shirts. They keep getting stupider as I keep reading.

“Nice to meet you all. I have to go and get ready for my fight, but keep drinking, it's free.”

“Thanks for looking out,” Rhys says.

“No problem, make sure Ally doesn’t kick your ass when you wake up chained to a street pole in the middle of town.”

“Don’t give them any ideas.”
