He kicks me in the ribs.

I grab his knee and punch his forearm again. Quickly, he pulls back.

With that, I lunge, throwing my weight on him. He looks up at me. I can tell his forearm is in pain and I almost feel bad using that against him.

“Who told you…”

I shake my head. “No. I figured it out. I’m smart.” I sit on his chest. “One, two, three.”

People erupt with cheers.

He rolls and pushes me off him, gripping his forearm. “Cheap shot.”

I grab his wrist and he winces. “Are you okay? I’m—”

“You got what you wanted, again.” He pulls from me, stands, and moves away.

I barely see Asura after that, only to confirm our date for the bonding ceremony. I ignore her as much as I can, which angers everyone, but she got what she wanted.

I do the only thing that relaxes my limbs. I lay on my back with my other arm over my face as the infirmary does another treatment of heat therapy against my arm.

“I can’t believe you let her win,” a voice sound.

My eyes open to see Eames standing by the curtain. “She was just better.”

He cocks a brow. “And you just happen to show her your weakness, right?”

My jaw tightens. “What are you getting at?”

He snorts. “Asura is a lowlife princess, who is spoiled and entitled. She can’t fight to say her life. That’s why she needs strong hellhounds to die for her.”

I blink.What’s his fucking point?

“Shame you let her win for some pussy.”

My eyes roll.

“Well, in her case,money.”

My eyes snap to him, waiting for him to shut up or move on. But he doesn’t.

“The walls in the kitchen are very thin when you are downstairs. Would be a shame to let her realize why she actually got you. Put up a good fight with all the slams and the entitled princess talk.”

Something in my gut wrenches.

“I won’t say anything… For a good price.”

I glare at him.

“Think about it. Wouldn’t want to hurt her when she finds out?”

“Tell her. I don’t care.” I did, though, and the thought of her finding out I’m only on her team to protect her until her father gives me the money, will be the one thing to lose her trust. I take a deep breath.I don’t care. Fuck it. Kick me off. I still have another year here. I can make it.

“Just think about it… See you at the party.” He smiles, moving away.

My brows pull.What party?

Friday night comes fast, and I go home with my father and brothers. Dad is throwing a party tomorrow to celebrate the fact that I now have three hounds.
