Releasing a shaky breath when I hear her coming downstairs, I rake my fingers through my damp hair.

“Mm, smells good.” She winds her arms around my torso from behind and presses on tiptoes to kiss my cheek. “Thanks for breakfast. And the food.”

I smack her ass playfully when she moves around me. “I take care of my girl.”

My gaze roves over her wet hair braided into pigtails, the freckles on the bridge of her nose, the way her sundress makes her blue eyes stand out. Five and a half years together and it still takes me by surprise that I got the girl of my dreams who fits with me in every way. I love her more than anything and I’m ready for more. I’m ready to make her mine for good.

Tatum sits at the breakfast bar, scanning the spread I made for us. She freezes when her attention lands on the purple sticky note waiting by her glass of lemonade—her mother’s famous recipe.

“You already gave me today’s note.” Her curiosity is shot through with warm affection as she picks it up. “You haven’t used these ones in years.”

“I was saving the last one,” I murmur.

It’s the most important note I’ve ever given her. A long time ago I had a dream of her in a white dress walking a flower-lined aisle in the sand toward me. I want to make that a reality. My fingers twitch, ready to get the ring box I hid behind the fruit bowl out of sight.

She shoots me a smile, the corners of her eyes crinkling. “Let’s see, this one says…”You’re my biggest dream. Will you marry me?“Coop.”

Tatum stares at the note, eyes glistening. I caress her cheek, guiding her to look at me.

“I love you, T. Because of you, my future became clear.” I slide the ring box out from its hiding spot, placing it in front of her. My eyes bounce between hers and I smile. “The clearest part of it has always been you by my side.”

“Oh my god,” she whispers thickly.

Clutching the note, she launches at me, squeezing me tight. I could ride the biggest, most perfect wave and the exhilarating feeling wouldn’t come close to what it’s like kissing her like this. I taste the joy on her tongue.

The ring sits forgotten while she reads the proposal again. It’s not important. She’s holding the piece of this she’ll cherish more than any jewelry I could buy her.

I chuckle, resting my forehead against hers. “Is that a yes? You didn’t answer.”

“Yes!” She cups my face with both hands. “Yes, I can’t wait to marry you. Like, I kind of want to be wild and go down to the court house now.”

I draw her in for a kiss and murmur against her lips. “I love it when you’re spontaneous.”
