InsideMetri’s, Denim waved me to the backcorner.
“You went shopping today?”
“Yeah.Kinda,” Ilied,and I didn’t know. “What’s going on?”
“You want something to drink?”
I squinted. “You’re trying to liquor me up, so what you want to talk about must be bad.”
“Depends on how you look atit.”
“I would like to think that I’m open minded, so shoot.”
“So, first I would like to mention that we know about you and my brother.”

“Although, I am very disappointed—”
“It’s not my fault, Denim. It’s his.”
“Because I know him, I am inclined to believe you.”
“Inclined?”
“Meaning—”
“I know what it means, Denim. I just want to make sure that I am hearing you correctly.”
“You’re getting worked up.”
“And youaretalking to me like a lawyer, and not my friend.”
The waiter came over to take our order, but Denim sent him away. The few moments of silence felt longer.
“Look…” She reached into her bag and pulled out a white binder before sliding it across the table to me. “This is for you if you decided to continue the relationship with him. He’s never done this. In four years, he’s never even looked at someone who worked for him.”
Ignoring that statement,I flipped opened the top of the binder, andmy eyes bucked at the title of the paper. “NDA agreement? I signed one of these already.” I flipped through the papers, and there was another one that read Settlement Agreement. After scanning that one, I closed it and looked up at her.
“Five hundred K as a settlement agreement if we don’t work out? I truly don’t understand what’s going on. Please give it to me straight.”
“Basically, you won’t disclose anything regarding the relationship to people.”
“Do I look like Oprah? I still don’t get it. I signed one of these at theclub. I signed one of these at DHQ. How muchshitis going to go on that you all think I mighttalk about, that you don’t want anyone else to know? Is this a standard procedure or something?I’m noteven hisgirlfriend.I don’t want anything fromhim,and I amdamnsure not going to get atea party together to speak about his dick.I’mwell awareof what I signed. None of the girls on Redditwent through all of this.”
She licked her lips.“You’re angry and—”
“I’m definitely moving toward that way because why does everybody in this damn family think I am for sale!”
Denim flapped her hands a little bit,letting me know thatI was getting a little loud, and I was because who did they think I was?
“Okay, and you have every right to beangry. I’m going to give it to you straight. Our family has already taken a hit, a couple hits, because of women, and them being reckless with theirdicks.This is to protect my family and our brand. If whatever you guys have going on doesn’t end well or whatever, there is a five hundred-K settlement agreement in there… for you. The standard is normally one hundred-K.”
“And just how many one hundred-K’s have you given out?And why? Please don’t tell me that your brother isafucking—”
“No. Hell no. Just for protection, Quinci. I’m sure you understand. My brother is worthover a hundred M’s.”
“I get it. You’re his sister, and you want to protect him. I get it. You’re a great sister. I’m sure this doesn’t have anything to do with Declan telling me that he ruins every woman he touches. So…I get it.”
