“Oh, cut the crap, Josephine. You saw me last night drunk at that gay bar wearing only my boxers and fake mustache, which looks like it belonged to a porno star from the eighties.”

Dr. Jenner flattens her lips, keeping her expression at bay.

“And some sight that was, Eric. Now, shall we?”

Just like the other patient, Eric goes well over the hour. By the time he exits the room, he does look refreshed with a glowing face.

“All done,” he says cheerfully.

“What are your plans for this weekend?”

“Well, for starters, I’ll be avoiding Tristan’s mother because she’s in town.” He rolls his eyes with an overdramatic sigh. “I’ve also got a few events, ready to break out my new Prada loafers.”

“Exciting.”

“And you? Do you have anything you want to share?”

My posture turns rigid at the same time I unknowingly suck in my cheeks. The paranoia gets the better of me, worried he can read my thoughts like some broody vampire, and this morning’s dirty secret will be revealed.

“Uh, me, why would you say that?”

“Lighten up, doll. It was just a question.”

I draw in a breath followed by a smile. “You know me, Daddy’s favorite. Nothing at all is happening with me.”

Eric laughs, then pats me on the shoulder. “Yes, indeed, Daddy’s favorite. You’re definitely not Millie with her age-gap romance.”

“Most definitely not, no billionaires in my bedroom.”

“And you’re not Ava with her forbidden pregnancy,” he continues with a proud grin.

“You’re the perfect little daughter.”

“That’s probably going a little bit too far. I mean, I’m not the perfect little daughter.

I can have fun.”

A rude snort escapes Eric’s mouth. “Oh really? Come on, Addy. Tell me the last time you actually had fun.”

My hands cross beneath my chest with a darting gaze.

“First of all, my idea of fun and your idea of fun are two very different things.”

“Addy, sweetheart,” he murmurs while touching my cheek with the back of his hand.

“You’ve got to live a little. You’re twenty-four with a stunning body. The body of, well, a twenty-four-year-old. Men want to be with you, and men want to be inside you. Studying is important, so is having fun.”

If only he knew about this morning, the so-called fun, or shall we call it ‘the thrill of making myself come in less than one minute because of a man I loathe.’ A man who stood outside waiting then had the audacity to smell my fingers for his own satisfaction.

“Eric, everyone is concerned about me because I don’t have a boyfriend, and I don’t like to date,” I pause momentarily, then catch my breath. “I promise you I’m fine. If I need to get laid, I’ll go get laid. Do I think that’s healthy? No, I don’t think one-night stands are healthy at all.”

Eric pinches the bridge of his nose while closing his eyes briefly.

“Don’t stress me out, woman. I’ve just aired my grievances, and now you want to argue with me about one-night stands?”

“Please give me one reason on how they’re healthy?”

“If he’s got a small wang, you never have to see it again,” Eric blurts out.
