I dropped his hand from the intensity of it all and clung to my handbag strap, as if it was my only tether to reality, which was quite possibly true.
“Well, good.” Pam looked between us. “Okay, then.”
“I, um, it’s good to meet you, Dr Cain.”
“Harry,” he blurted, looking between me and Pam. “Please, call me Harry or Dr Harry. I’d much prefer it to Dr Cain. Or Harrison.”
His full name lingered in the air between us, conjuring memories of lust and sex.

Harry was a much safer name to use if I wanted to keep my sanity for the next eight weeks. I desperately sought words to clear thoughts of the back seat of his car.
My eyes settled on my cupcakes. “I baked,” I added lamely.
Someone cleared their throat behind me.
“Good morning, I’m here for my appointment at seven-thirty.”
Mrs Marsden, a regular of the practice.
The awkwardness dissolved as the three of us leapt into action. Mrs Marsden was twenty minutes early. I dashed to the reception desk to boot up the computer, Pam to the filing room to retrieve Mrs Marsden’s file, and Harry to Doc Larcombe’s consultation room. Once I’d escorted the patient to Harry, I opened an instant message window on my computer.
Me: emergency
Me: S. O. S.
Sam: hey, what’s up?! What’s wrong?
Me: So, my hook up on Saturday after the race?

“Excuse me, miss? I’m here to see Dr Larcombe for seven forty-five. I’m a bit early.”

I found her name in the calendar. “Dr Larcombe is away I’m afraid but we have a replacement doctor. Dr Harry, will that be okay?”

Mum loved to watchAnimal Hospitalon TV which had a vet who was also Dr Harry. Mrs Hamilton appeared to be a fan, too.
I shook my head. “I’m afraid we have no celebrity vets here to see you, Mrs Hamilton.”
My computer pinged.
Sam: I NEED TO KNOW WHY THERE IS AN ORGASM EMERGENCY RIGHT NOW.
