Baby girl: I made sure it was perfect.

Loner: XOXO!

Little bird: Love you, sis!

Me: Thank you all! I’ll have another wedding in the summer.

Mother Hen: Before you go…did you take a test?

My best friend’s face pops up on my phone, cutting off my chance to respond to Violet. I hit the call button, smiling as Emma squeals through the line, her video shaking.

“Fuck, Scarlett. You look so hot! I bet you won’t even get down the aisle before you take the D.” Emma grins with her words, filling the screen with a closeup of her mouth. “I’m so mad I couldn’t be there.”

I stare at my screen, tears glazing in my eyes, but I refuse to let them fall. “We’ll have a public one soon.”

Because today is my wedding day, and as much as I want my sisters and best friend here, we couldn’t risk my mom finding out. So this intimate occasion will only have two witnesses. Dean Clearwater for my alphas, and Ms. Sandy for me. I was so relieved when she agreed to be here. The more I get to know the woman, the closer I feel to her. She already has so many projects she wants to hire me for. Because of her kindness and how much she believes in me, I have accepted commissions for the next four months until I take the assistant position with Talia, the new Art Department director.

“I know. It’s just—fuck. I wish I could do something more.” Emma swipes her arm over her cheeks.

“You’ve done so much already. I can’t thank you enough for helping me stay in touch with my sisters. It means the world to me.” I release a long breath.

“You’d do the same for me,” Emma says. “Now send me lots of pics and go get that D. I’m so happy for you, Scar.”

“I’m happy too,” I say, blowing her a kiss.

Emma disconnects the line, and I stare at the string of new text messages from my sisters. As much as I want to catch up and chat like we used to, I can’t. My heart hurts because Mom put us all in this position.

Princess: You know she’d tell us if she did.

Hardass: Not if she took my advice.

Mother Hen: You’re paranoid, Cyan.

Loner: You mean smart.

“Ms. Sandy? Will you take a picture of me?” I ask, closing out the text messages from my sisters.

Ms. Sandy stands up from the small couch where she adds a ribbon to my bouquet. “Absolutely. Let me help you with one more thing.” Lifting my veil from its spot on the vanity, she pins the flower and jewel arrangement to my hair and straightens out the soft tulle material. “Perfect.”

I smile at myself in the mirror, feeling as if I’m a new version of myself. I’m not the same omega who came to San Diego to hide the fact that no one had proposed or wanted her. I’m a well-loved and taken care of omega with five strong alphas who will do whatever it takes to protect me.

“Now hold these,” Ms. Sandy adds, lifting the bouquet from the table.

I take the colorful arrangement of deep yellow sunflowers, red hydrangeas, and burgundy and black roses. It’s a perfect autumn bouquet, and I absolutely love it.

I bring it to my face and inhale a slow breath, peeking up as Ms. Sandy snaps a picture. I send it to my sisters and then to Emma, smiling to myself. Only a couple more minutes. A couple more minutes and I will officially be Scarlett Hart.

Me: No test, but Sapphire’s right. I’ll let you guys know when I do. Now I have to go. It’s time to claim my grooms.

I set my phone down on the vanity and let Ms. Sandy help strap on my heels. My toes and fingernails glitter with the ruby polish, matching the color of my lipstick.

My heart beats rapidly, picking up pace as I look at the time, knowing that my alphas will be standing in the small chapel. I’m sure they’re anxiously waiting for me.

“You look absolutely beautiful. I know that this might not mean much, but I hope you know how much you are loved. I haven’t seen a pack so smitten and devoted until I met yours. You’re going to make a fantastic wife and an amazing mother.” Ms. Sandy squeezes my hand.

I pull her to me and hug her. “That means everything to me. You have been so kind. I don’t know how I’ll ever repay you.”

She smiles softly. “Friends don’t owe friends anything. I’m just happy that you came into my coffee shop.”
