I release a breath in relief. I didn’t realize how worried I was, thinking that I was going to get stuck with someone I disliked. I should’ve known better than that. My devils love me too much to torture me in a bad way.

I open my mouth to thank him, but the balcony door flies open, and Zade tumbles in, rolling across the floor until he smacks into the bed. Andre stands tall in the doorway, filling the frame. His eyes light with fire, and he heaves a couple of deep breaths.

What the actual fuck? What is he doing bringing Zade here? I thought we decided to keep a bit of distance from him and definitely not let him know where we are at now.

“Andre? What is this about?” I shuffle forward, and Dante remains right on my heels, his chest touching my back. “Why is Zade here?”

“I thought I would be good with letting him make up his mind and finally join us, but I am not. I can’t risk him doing something regrettable. I don’t trust that he won’t try to break our wards to come for you. So I brought him here. He’s yours now. No more waiting for him to make the choice to take his throne.” Andre folds his wings and closes the balcony door. “He will be your prisoner.”

“My prisoner? Oh, no. He’syourprisoner. I can’t just keep him locked up here. It doesn’t feel right to me. He’ll hate me.” I shuffle closer to Zade and kneel beside him as he remains on the floor.

It’s now that I realize he’s been bound. His wings are damaged, and it looks like he and Andre got into a fight.

It took everything in me to keep my anger in check. This is not like Andre to do something so rash without consulting me. I wonder what has gotten into him.

“There’s no way he could ever hate you,” Andre says, towering over me.

I ignore him and touch my fingers to the back of Zade’s head, combing my finger softly through his blond hair. “Zade, are you okay? How badly are you hurt?”

“He’s fine.” Andre growls with his words. “I only roughed him up enough to bring him here. He was making it difficult.”

“Of course, he was making it difficult!” I snap, whipping my head up to look at him. “He’s being forced off the path that he thinks is where he should be. You shouldn’t have done this. I want you to let him go.”

“No.” Andre flexes his muscles, steeling himself.

I grimace in annoyance. “Andre—”

“Raven, I think Andre was right in his decision to bring Zade here.” Lucian moves closer and stands next to Andre. Is he really doing this?

“I’m afraid I have to agree, pretty soul. You are in a fragile state, and I know that you want us to treat you as if you’re made of steel, but the fact is, you are made of flesh and bone. It’s not your fault. We don’t think you’re any less tough, but you need to think things through. It is possible that Elias might be connected to Heaven right now. There’s no other explanation as to why you were glowing like a damn angel.”

I can’t believe they are all teaming up. They are totally doing the whole majority rules thing. The only way they will let Zade go is if maybe I can convince Kase and Micah to side with me. Unfortunately, I don’t see that happening. I don’t know if it’s worth the argument or fight.

“Are you sure about that?” I ask, continuing to comb my fingers into Zade’s soft hair as if it will give me the strength to keep my cool. “Do you think they’re right, Zade?”

He doesn’t respond to me, keeping his cheek pressed against the floor. Seeing him like this hurts me on a deep-seated level. I want to stand up for him, not against my devils. I don’t know who I want to face in regards to Zade, but everything just seems so unfair. Why does it have to be like this? Things would’ve been fine if the guardians would’ve just left me the hell alone. I almost pray in silence for an answer, but the thought vanishes.

I inhale and exhale a long breath and turn to my devils. “I need you guys to give me some time alone with Zade. I know you’re all riled up and shit, but he’s not going to talk to me with you here. And I really want to talk to him.”

Andre looks ready to argue, and so does Lucian, for that matter, but Dante grabs them both by the back of their shirts and yanks them away.

“We will be next door. All you have to do is holler,” Dante says. “But don’t take too long. Kase should be coming any minute, and we desperately want you to have an exam with the obstetrician.”

I only nod instead of responding to him. I remain with Zade on the floor until the three devils leave the suite and head to the one joined with ours with only a door separating it. I wait for a moment, seeing if Zade will turn over or look at me, but he doesn’t. I gather my nerves and nudge him until he finally rolls over. I manage to get the Hell bindings off of him without burning myself, and they vanish before they hit the floor. I hover over Zade and touch his split lip with my fingers, watching him wince in pain.

“I’m so sorry.” I don’t know what else to say.

He looks so defeated with his blue eyes shining with unshed tears. Blinking a few times, he clears his vision. The second our eyes meet, something changes in his expression. His features soften, and he slowly reaches up and caresses his knuckles to my cheek.

“You’re so beautiful,” Zade says, his words just a whisper of a breath. “Andre was right. I should be here. I need to be here with you. It’s the only way I can guarantee you’re safe.”

Stretching up, Zade surprises me with a sweet kiss, his lips tasting tangy with blood, but I don’t pull back. I practically attack his mouth with my own, deepening our kiss and sliding my tongue in his mouth. He reacts with surprising passion and pulls me flush against him, grabbing my ass in the process.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d think he had already jumped from Heaven.

But he hasn’t. His wings keep flickering in and out of existence as he grinds me against him, letting me feel the hardness of his cock.

“I want you,” I whisper, keeping my voice low as if I’m afraid he will automatically reject me for saying such a thing.
