Kellan shrieks in his wolf form, his human voice yelling through my mind. I gasp with his pain. He might have been right all along about our soul bond. Everything he feels, I feel. It’s as if I experience what he does.

Jerking my head, I snap my teeth, catching Ravi’s leg. He growls and leans down, nipping my ear. I shake my head, using my body weight to yank his paws out from under him. We roll together, and I break free and rush the circle of wolves, taunting and torturing Kellan, taking their time to end him.

“Chase! Adam! You need to resist!” I shout, projecting my thoughts. “Stop! You’re better than this!”

I bound forward, my fear for Kellan boosting my energy. I feel stronger with my desperation. More vicious. I’ll rip Sean to pieces if I have to. I’ll destroy them all. Jumping with my hind legs, I crash into him. My world spins as he whips around and locks his teeth to my fur, flipping me onto my back before I can react.

Ravi growls, snapping his fangs at Sean, threatening him. “Handle the pack. I will remind her of her place.”

Sean bows, snarling in my face. “I will handle both.”

My heart races at his words. “Ravi, please! Please! Make them stop. I’ll be your mate. I’ll do what you want. Please, just make them stop. Call them off.”

A loud laugh echoes through my mind, the creepy noise coming from Sean. He bares his fangs, the gesture terrifying. He ignores Ravi’s warning growl, peering into my eyes. Panic ignites inside me. I can’t fight. I can’t think. All I can do is lie docile beneath him, praying to the universe that he doesn’t destroy me.

“I think you’re mistaken about who you need to beg,” Sean says, his grumbly voice striking me as if he bites my soul. “I’m your alpha.”

I heave a breath through my nostrils, my heart thudding in overdrive. His comment feels more like a command as if his very being wants to put me in my place even though he hasn’t done anything yet. Ravi had mentioned that Sean was growing weak. He had a plan because only alphas can claim omegas. He doesn’t think Sean is worthy of his position any longer, but he needs me. He needs me to bow and to bear power with him in the form of offspring.

Sean doesn’t notice.

Maybe this is what I need. I can bow to Ravi and offer him empty promises. It might cause enough tension to give me a chance to fight. It could give me a chance to get Adam and Chase to snap out of whatever hold Sean has on them. It could help me save Kellan.

I never thought I would bow. I never thought I would hit my breaking point.

But as my body breaks and changes, I realize that it isn’t the end. Broken things can be fixed. Broken things can create even better more beautiful possibilities. I might be broken, but I can rebuild myself stronger than ever. Something that wouldn’t have been possible had I never fallen apart.

“You are not my alpha.” I think the words to Sean, channeling my strength and anger from this fucked up situation. “You won’t grant me mercy. You have nothing to offer me. But Ravi? He is an alpha. My body and soul recognize his strength over yours. This is why I accept you, Ravi. I will exist for you as your intended mate. I will bow and acknowledge that you are my alpha. I offer my life and future to you.”

Sean snarls, baring his teeth and jerking his head down. I brace for him to bite me. I brace for him to tear my throat out. But Ravi expects it. Sean doesn’t even get within an inch of my exposed body. Ravi launches at him, knocking him off of me. I scramble up, darting around the two wolves fighting. Fur flies through the air, and the rest of the pack grows restless, growling and barking and howling. They turn their attention away from Kellan.

This is my chance.

I might have offered my loyalty and my future to Ravi, but he’s going to have to catch me first.

Dodging around the wolves, I rush to Kellan and shove my snout beneath him, forcing him to get to his paws.

The two wolves crash past me, and I watch as Ravi tears into the throat of Sean. Blood soaks his white snout, staining it red. Sean stumbles in his wolf form, trying to drag himself away, but Ravi doesn’t let him.

“I don’t want to kill you, Sean, but you’re no longer fit to be our alpha. You do not see things as clearly anymore.” Ravi growls and snatches Sean by the scruff of his neck again.

“You will fail. You are not worthy.” Sean’s voice resonates through my mind as he projects it to the pack. “If you bow to him, it will be your undoing. He is not your intended alpha. I—”

Snarling, Ravi sinks his teeth into Sean’s throat, biting down so hard that it cuts off the guttural noises escaping the alpha. And he doesn’t release him. Sean’s body stops fighting, going placid. This is the end. He’s going to kill him.

This is my last opportunity.

I need to get the others and run. This might be our only chance. I have to take it. I have to risk it.

“Chase. Adam. Come on,” I think to them, barking in their direction. The sound of my voice weirds me out, but it feels so natural. I feel natural in this form now that my limbs finally cooperate, and my body, mind, and soul align in harmony.

Chase and Adam don’t respond to me. They don’t even look at me. Their gazes remain focused on Ravi fighting against their alpha. One of them will have to win, but I don’t want to find out who will rise.

Kellan nudges his head into my side, pushing me away. “We’ll have to come back for them after the moon sets. They won’t be of any use right now.”

I think he’s right. I hate that he is. I don’t know what I was expecting, but a deep ache cuts through me, knowing that Chase and Adam might be lost to me. Davian, Evander, and Tristan too. I have failed them. We were supposed to fight together. Stay together. Get off this fucking island together. But now? It feels as if this island will never let us go. The packs will never stop hunting us. I will never be able to create my own pack and future to my liking.

“My love, don’t give up hope just yet. I’m your mate, and I will help get our pack together as you desire.” Kellan whimpers with his words, nudging me again, getting my paws to cooperate.
