Enzo catches up and spins in front of her, blocking her way. “Baby, come on. Let me—”

She plants her hands to his chest. “I know you want to just cuddle me and give me everything I want, but we need to talk about everything. I know that you guys don’t want me to be afraid, but it’s the unknown that scares me.” Damn. I like the way she stands up for herself in this moment. And she’s right. She deserves answers.

She kisses Enzo, getting him to relax. “I know your brothers are on their way, but I can’t wait for them. Tell me everything you know.”

She flicks her green gaze to mine, though she addresses Enzo. I stare at the two of them in silence, my mind turning to mush. She shouldn’t have to deal with any of this. We should’ve prepared better. Prepared for possibly having to commit treason against the Gilded Sands Pack and the Pack Regime of Saint Vista.

“I don’t know the complete details, but you were right about recognizing the man. He was part of the Platinum Shores Pack.” Enzo clenches his jaw, his voice deepening to a low rumble.

Kinsey turns her attention to me, pulling Enzo along with her instead of leaving him behind, standing at the stairs. “Do you know more, Desmond?”

I nod my head and motion toward the small dining table in the corner of the living room, the open floor plan giving the condo a more spacious feel.

“One of the Platinum Shore assets had a tracker. They were able to pinpoint our location. One of the security staff was bribed and allowed them in. They went a bit rogue and were supposed to only go after what their alpha had stated, but then the guy saw you.” I swallow, trying to remain expressionless. Madame Tamsin usually wouldn’t sell an omega and give up that control, but Platinum Shores offered her something she couldn’t refuse—a way out of the Gutter District and more power on one of Saint Vista’s Pack Regimes.

“Of course. Madame Tamsin’s clients don’t like when they don’t get their way.” Kinsey pouts her mouth.

“There’s more to it than that. It wasn’t that Platinum Shores didn’t get their way. They bought you from Tamsin. You were to be theirs permanently.” Rage boils through me at the thought.

“No, that can’t be right. I was forced into an entertainment contract. Obviously, I never made it. I was going to be a private entertainer for special clients that didn’t like to visit the Vixen Lounge.” Kinsey shudders with her words, her muscles tense. She slips into the chair and rests her head on her arms, shutting out the world around her.

It kills me having to tell her about what her possible fate could’ve been. “It’s what the man told us.”

“God, I’m so stupid.” Kinsey’s green eyes glass over. “I’m so sorry. I should’ve known better. I should’ve told you all.”

I close the space to her, engulfing her in a bear hug. “You don’t have to apologize, Kinsey. We couldn’t have expected you to share that kind of information, and I already told my brother not to pry about anything else and that you would tell us when you were comfortable.”

She tips her head back, looking up at me, and I press my lips to her forehead. “Thank you for understanding, but I know that it’s important now...I mean, telling you everything.”

“The most important thing right now is you, Kinsey.” I rub my knuckles to her cheek, pushing her dark hair over her shoulder, exposing her neck. I can’t help myself and caress my fingers down her throat, exploring the soft skin.

“Desmond, why don’t you take her upstairs to your room and let me catch up with our brothers when they get here?” Enzo’s comment surprises me. I thought for sure he’d want to listen to Kinsey spill her heart, but maybe he understands that I might be best in the situation. The scent of her emotions or her order doesn’t control me as much as they do him, especially after she gave herself to him completely and accepted his knot.

“Is that okay?” I ask Kinsey, pulling her in for another hug, just wanting to feel the weight of my arms around her and her body against mine. There’s something about holding her so close that makes me feel more powerful, stronger.

“Yeah, of course. I’d like that.” Kinsey turns to Enzo and Holly. “Just let me know if you need anything, okay? You’re welcome to join us, Holly.”

Holly shakes her head with a warming smile. “We’ll have our own girl time later.”

“I’d like that,” Kinsey says, smiling at my sister.

I hook my arm around Kinsey, guiding her back toward the stairs. My phone chimes again before we even reach the first landing.

Asshole Bro: Leader of Platinum Shores wants a meeting.

Asshole Bro: Tell Enzo.

Asshole Bro: Video call.

Asshole Bro: Do not include Kinsey.

I slow down and twist, locking my eyes to Enzo. He stares at his own phone screen, glowering at the fact that Wilder assumes he’s out of touch.

Sexy Beast: I swear to fucking God if they threaten us, this is war.

That fucker, always messing with my phone contacts.

Asshole Bro: Just keep your mouth shut. I only want you to be present.
