With our luggage in hand, Emmett led Charlie and me upstairs to a bedroom with vaulted ceilings, timber floors, and a beautiful king-sized bed.

My jaw dropped open as I took the place in. “This place keeps getting more and more beautiful. Is this your old bedroom?”

“No, it’s a guest room.”

“There’s even a fireplace, Emmett!”

He nodded. “It gets pretty chilly up here in the winter.”

“Charlie!” June called as she reached the doorway. “I have a special room all made up for you, sweetheart. Would you like to see it?”

“My own room? Yeah!” Charlie bounced out of the room as quickly as his moon boot would let him.

June took Charlie’s bag out of my grasp with a wink. “You’re welcome.”

I watched with my mouth agape as she closed the door behind herself. “Is she trying to tell us something?”

Emmett wrapped his arms around me. “I think she’s giving us a romantic, child-free weekend.” When he sensed my hesitation, he added, “Don’t worry. Mom will spoil him rotten.”

“I’m sure she’ll take great care of him. I . . . I’ve never had this before. A child-free weekend.” That meant I had Emmett to myself for nearly two whole days.

With a playful smile, Emmett cupped the back of my head and angled my lips toward his. “Then we’d better make it worthwhile.”

When he kissed me, I lost track of the entire world.
