“You say that like it’s a bad thing, man,” Ethan teased. “You should be happy that nothing was stolen.”

“It’s not that I’m not happy about that, but then, why would someone hold me at gunpoint?” Linc asked. “From what Ella has told me, they took things from the other tenants in this building, so why not me?” He had a point. Out of everyone in the building, Linc would have the most valuable items to steal.

“Ella said that your alarm must have scared them off,” Ethan offered as a way of explanation.

“It felt as though he was standing over my bed, holding that gun at my head, for an eternity,” Linc whispered. “I was so scared. I thought that he was going to kill me and God, I begged him not to.”

Ethan crossed the room to pull Linc back against his body. “Of course you did,” he whispered. “I would have done the same thing, babe. You were being held at gunpoint and anyone would have been terrified to be in your position. But you did good, you got out of here alive and I’m so thankful that you did.”

“I am too, but I didn’t do anything, really,” Linc corrected. “I simply sat frozen to the side of my bed, waiting for any sign that the guy was gone. When the police stormed into my bedroom, I finally realized that I was safe and that’s when I got up. I just sat there, waiting for God only knows what.”

“You were in shock, Linc. It’s completely normal for everything that you experienced last night. God, you must have been terrified and you handled everything just the way that you should have. You called me and we got Ella’s firm involved. Things worked out just the way that they should have,” he assured. “You’re safe now, and that’s all that matters.”

“Thank you,” Linc whispered. He turned in Ethan’s arms and Linc gently brushed his lips over his.

“I didn’t do anything,” Ethan assured.

“Yeah, you did,” Linc said. “You listened to me and didn’t judge me for being a coward.”

“There wasn’t anything cowardly about what you did, babe. You stayed alive and that’s all that matters,” Ethan promised. Linc nodded and smiled, and Ethan knew that he was done talking about it. It was one of Linc’s telltale signs that he didn’t want to hash things out further—he just got quiet. “Now, let’s get you packed. Our girl will be back before we know it and I want to get you both back to my place,” Ethan said, bobbing his eyebrows at him, making Linc laugh.

“Always so eager,” Linc teased. “Come on, you can help me pack my shit.”
