“No. I’ve had relationships, and I have felt deep things for those people, but I don’t think I have ever been in love. Have you?”

She bit down on her lip, and I wanted nothing more than to pull it out from between her teeth. Whenever she did that, it drove me crazy.

“I think my idea of love is skewed. The only person I have ever dated was Max, and he said he loved me, but his actions said otherwise.” Her tongue jutted out to lick her lips. “There was a time I thought I was falling in love with him, but then I realized I was just in a deep infatuation with him.”

“You have crap-taste in men, by the way.”

She rolled her eyes. “Not all the men I like are crap.”

“Judging by your previous relationship with Max, I would beg to differ. You have crap-taste in men.”

“So then, you would be on that crap-list, too,” she said under her breath. I had barely heard her.

“What?”

Her eyes widened a little. She hadn’t expected me to hear her words. “Nothing, I was just saying…ummm...it’s my turn to ask a question.”

I didn’t want to make this anymore award, so I left it.

“Seeing as neither of us has taken a shot yet, I need to up my game.”

“Hit me.”

“Why don’t you hang out with Grayson anymore?”

“I said don’t ask about my family.”

“I didn’t. I asked about my brother but, judging from your answer, I’m guessing it has something to do with Jade.”

I let out a huff and grabbed the shot glass and downed it. The liquor burned my esophagus as it travelled down my throat and finally settling in my stomach. A warmth expanded in my belly.

When I set the glass back down, Lily was staring at me with a look I despised more than anything. Pity.

“My turn,” I grunted. “Why didn’t you go live with Nora rather than staying with Maddison.”

Without hesitation, she took a shot glass and downed it. She barely even winced. Either this girl was a regular drinker, or her glasses were filled with water.

“What is one of your biggest regrets?” Her big doe eyes were looking at me with such innocence behind them.

I took the shot glass from the tray and downed the drink. That was another topic that I was not ready talk about, and I didn’t think I would ever be ready to talk about it.

Once the liquor had settled in my stomach, I turned my attention back to Lily.

My eyes moved from her face to her hair that flowed past her shoulders and down her back.

“Why did you change your hair?”

On instinct, her hand found her hair.

“Max said that I looked sexier with a darker hair. I didn’t want to go full black, so I opted for this color. Why? Is it a bad color on me?”

I shook my head. “It’s not bad. It’s just…your blonde hair brought out the blue in your eyes. And don’t listen to Max. You can be beautiful in whatever color you choose to wear.”

I could feel the buzz taking over in my head. The tension was leaving my body, and I suddenly became hyper aware of everything around me, specifically Lily.

“Ummm…it’s…it’s your turn.”

“Yes.” I tried to regain my composure, but it was hard. “If you could have anything you want in this world, what would you want?”
