She lifted her head and kissed over my heart.

I woke to my cell phone as it buzzed against the chair in my coat pocket. I rolled away from Sienna, who was sound asleep nuzzled into my side. I had carried her to bed last night and ravished her one last time before we both fell asleep like the dead. I was determined to be inside her as many times as I could. We had a lot of lost time to make up for.

“Were you asleep?” I could hear the smile in Vinni’s voice.

“I was, yes, and I’d still like to be.”

“Long night,” he teased.

“Something like that.” I yawned and glanced at the clock, only to find it was nearly 11a.m. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d slept that late.

“Well, we’re here, and all that’s missing is you.”

“Give me fifteen and tell Mama I’m on the way.” I hung up and crawled back in bed with Sienna, kissing her shoulder, neck, and cheek until she slowly woke.

“Good morning.” She didn’t open her eyes, just smiled as I cupped her breast.

“I have to be up at the Hill House for a meeting. Would you like to come? Or would you be all right here?”

“Not moving. Yes, I can promise you, I’ll be just fine.”

“Are you sure? It’s kind of important, or I’d stay.”

“Mmm.” She was too tired to listen and just lay there looking perfect between the soft gray sheets.

“Is it wrong that I want you even more now?” I ran my hand down her stomach and enjoyed her nakedness. She flopped her legs open, and I groaned, feeling my erection stand to attention, begging me for another round. I knew once I got inside her, I would never make it to the house. Instead, I bent and swiped my tongue between her folds, and she granted me a moan that I would carry for the rest of the day.

“Join us if you want, but tonight you’re mine again.” I kissed the inside of her thigh then peeled myself away. I watched her roll into my pillow and pull it into her arms with a happy sigh.

I loved that woman.

With a painful grunt, I rushed to the shower, changed, and headed to the Hill House.

Once I stepped through the door, Mama appeared out of thin air.

“I’d ask how your night was…” She fussed with my tie, which we both knew didn’t need to be straightened. She was buying a moment alone with me. “But since you’re late, it tells me it went well?” She lifted a hopeful eyebrow, and I leaned down and kissed her cheek.

“Better than well.”

“Good.” She stepped back. “Will she be joining you?”

“She’s worn out, but it’s all right. She’ll join us for dinner later.”

“Well, I’ve never known you to be late for an important meeting. You should get moving.” She gave me a little shove, and her smile gave away how much she wanted all of this for me.

I hurried down the hallway and into the living room where everyone was gathered.

“My apologies for being late.” I glared at my cousins, who were both grinning like fools. “Let’s figure out this Mariano problem and then dive into the rest of the mess.”

The meeting ran longer than I hoped, which normally wouldn’t faze me, but knowing that Sienna was in our bed, naked, made it hard to concentrate.

“Mama, are you good to make your move when I give you the green light?”

“Yes.” She nodded at me from her seat next to Papa. “I’ve been worried that people are starting to wonder where they went.”

“I know. I guess there might be a few who would find the DeSimones ‘missable.’ Who? I have no idea,” I muttered, thinking how much better our world was now they were gone. I fingered the edge of my tablet while I tried to keep my face neutral with my next statement. “Vinni, I’d like you to spend a little more time at your house, keep an eye on what Nonna is up to.”
