Chapter 34

Brendon

2:41 PM SATURDAY

I should’ve fought harder to keep her close to me, like I told myself I would. Or else we wouldn’t be here now…in this mess.

Ding!

“Are you ready?” I look around at Liam, Anton, and Lock as we step out of the elevator.

“Let’s fuckin’ go!” Liam shouts and the others look down, concentrated and fuming in silence.

Mysti’s in trouble, we know that’s for certain, but we’re also confident in assuming that she’s not alone. Percy, Sammi, and Becky wouldn’t leave her, not even if she begged them, too.

Hearing Alphonso’s voice made my skin crawl, and almost instinctively, I knew she was in danger.

And the second I heard Mysti’s, I knew I couldn’t stay away. I saw red, and I still do. It’s not like Mysti to call for help, especially after what she said to me.

I knew whatever she got herself into was bad—white Cadillac, machine gun bad—but not to the extent of Alphonso.

But it makes sense.

Once you fall for Mysti, you can’t get back up. At least not easily.

Descending upon the door, we get ourselves all amped up, anger propelling us forward.

“Fuck!” I kick open the door, and the guys behind me scatter around the suite looking for the women.

The smell of gasoline stings my nostrils, making me almost woozy, and my anxiety heightens…

“What the fuck?” I hear a man’s voice roar through the suite, and I turn my head to see a man larger than a fucking grizzly bear charge toward me.

“Brendon!” Lock screams at me, hoping to direct my attention.

“Got ’em!” I move out of his path, and he flails his hands around trying to grab me.

I duck as he punches and jabs, missing me each time.

Once I get an opportune moment and a good angle, I throw him one upper cut to the gut and another swiftly to the jaw, polishing him off with a hook to his eye. He lunges forward and falls to the ground, crying out in pain.

I kick him in the chest repeatedly.

“Where the fuck is she?” I yell, almost grunting as my foot crashes into the burly man.

He winces in pain, muttering out random bullshit that doesn’t make sense.

“Where is she?” I keep kicking him, getting more pissed off as he answers me with silence.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

“Shit!” Liam yells, and we all fall to the floor.

Someone fucking fired a gun at us.

I look up and see three large men walk out from one of the bedrooms, holding semi-automatic weapons.

I’ve seen this—them—before.
