Reality starts to sink in, and I realize these are the same guys that were chasing and shooting at Mysti…in that white Cadillac.

But thanks to that encounter, I’ve learned their tactics—they’re ruthless. So, I’ll be able to prepare according to their standards. I can be just as fucking ruthless.

Stalking toward me, one of the gunmen shoots another round of bullets that breezes by me while I roll behind the couch.

Before he cocks his gun and reloads, Liam jumps on the King Kong-looking gunman and chokes him, disabling him briefly. The man’s gun falls to the ground when he reaches for Liam, and Anton and the other gunman lunge for it.

Both grab onto it, fighting to break the other’s grip. They roll around on the ground, grunting and struggling to capture the gun.

Meanwhile, Lock helps out Liam, kicking the giant in the balls. A simple but clever move seeing as he falls to the ground, whimpering.

I slowly get up, watching the scene unfold around me. But I’m blindsided with a forceful shove that throws me against the wall. Another man who’s built like a fucking Viking stands before for me, fuming.

“Ughhh!” He stalks towards me, his face bruised from perhaps another fight.

He picks up a lamp on the side table and throws it at me. I duck, letting it shatter against the wall.

The flying shrapnel distracts me from the knuckles jamming into my cheek bone, but I react quickly, punching him in the face, the chest, and the gut. I kick his knee cap, and he tumbles down like a fucking tree.

“Shit!” He seethes, grasping onto his knee, but his face still gets smashed onto the marble flooring.

I kick him in the chest and gut for good measure, and he stills, falling victim to the pain.

I look to find Liam and the gunmen still fighting each other, tugging the gun back and forth. Anton punches him in the face and twists his finger, while the gunman knees him and bites his shoulder.

Bang!

A shot goes off, and we all freeze, looking down to see who’s the one with the bullet hole.

Luckily, both are fine, and Anton uses it as a diversion. The gunman retracts his grip and Liam takes advantage, grabbing onto both of their weapons. He rolls over and leaps up, turning back to the gunman and pointing both the rifles at him.

“Where the fuck is Alphonso?”

The man chuckles menacingly, and Liam kicks him in the stomach when he leans down and starts to get up.

“Where is he?”

He falls back down, and Liam bulks up, foaming at the mouth as he’s met with more laughter.

For a second, I think Liam’s about to shoot the motherfucker. But I know he wouldn’t resort to that, like the rest of us.

“Goddamn it!” Lock screams, and I hear the sound of dishes and pots and pans crashing onto the floor.

I run toward the sound, finding King Kong and some other huge man and Lock and Anton squaring off on either side of the kitchen island.

Lock and Anton are both wielding knives, and the giants are un-armed, though one looks like he’s about to jump forward at any moment.

They’re big enough to get ahold of Lock and Anton and pin them down, making them useless.

I crouch down, trying to stay out of their eye sight, and lightly pick up one of the pots lying on the floor.

Quietly and with precision, I align myself behind both of the men like I’m up to bat.

I swing—a fucking homerun of a swing—and it clashes against one of the guys’ head, and I repeat the same ploy on the other guy quickly before he notices.

They stumble, swaying back and forth before falling to the ground.

Standing above them, I kick them both to make sure they’re out, and then I look up to see Anton and Lock with their mouths agape.
