“Yes,Dad. I’m eating three times a day, getting plenty of sleep; I just don’t have a lot of time for anything else.”

“One, please don’t call me Dad. You know how that creeps me out.” He chuckles. “And two, I just want to make sure you’re adjusting. I know this isn’t easy.” He gestures around the room. “Living here with your brother and his friend. Being forced to sleep on the couch with zero privacy.”

“It’s not so bad.” I smile, thinking of Atlas.

“You know, the offer I made still stands. You’re welcome to use my room and I’ll take the couch.”

“Absolutely not,” I repeat the same thing I told him the first time he offered. “This is your space. It’s bad enough that I’m here. I won’t takeyourprivacy.”

“But I’m a guy, it’s different.”

“It is. But it isn’t, either. Sleeping on the couch has worked out fine these last few weeks. And look, it’s already mid-October. We’re nearly halfway through the semester. I think I can manage for a few more weeks.”

The thought of leaving, of this thing between me and Atlas coming to an end, leaves a bitter taste on my tongue, but I swallow it down, refusing to think about that right now. I’ll cross that bridge when I get there. Though something tells me I’m going to need to do so sooner rather than later.

“Just know the offer stands.”

“I appreciate that.” I jump when my cell phone starts ringing, the sound startling me.

Pushing to a stand, I cross to the door and squat down, digging it out of my bag. When I see Atlas’s name, I can’t stop the smile that touches my lips.

I swipe my finger across the screen and press the device to my ear.

“Hey.” My voice sounds almost winded as I straighten, looking back at my brother as I cover the receiver. “It’s Zoe. I’m going to step out in the hallway so you can finish your work.”

Without giving him a chance to object, I quickly exit the apartment.

“So I’m Zoe now, huh?” The sound of Atlas’s deep husk on the other end of the line causes the little hairs on my arms to stand.

“Best I could come up with on the spot.”

I knew Brennon would think nothing of it because I often sneak out to talk to Zoe, not wanting to be overheard, especially since I caved and told her about me and Atlas sleeping together. It took me a couple weeks, but when I came clean I swear she nearly jumped through the phone at the news. I’m still not sure how she actually feels about it. Then again, I’m not sure how I feel about it either. I do know that it felt good to tell someone. Like a weight being lifted, I felt like I could semi-breathe for the first time since this all started.

“Why are you calling me?” I ask, keeping my tone low.

“I’m bored,” he whines dramatically.

“Aww, poor baby. Pretty sure this was your idea. I said I would go to the coffee shop for a bit and you could go home first,” I remind him.

“Now that wouldn’t be very gentleman-like now, would it? Besides, I’m the one with the car which makes it easier for me to kill time.”

“Well, clearly you’re not doing a good job at killing time if you’re calling me to tell me how bored you are.”

“I missed your voice.”

“That’s the best you got?” I force out after a momentary lapse in my ability to breathe.

“My Jeep smells like you.”

“Is that a bad thing?” I pace the hallway, the smile on my face stupid big.

“Fuck no. I love it.” The low chuckle that reverberates through the phone hits me straight between the thighs.

I swear, I don’t know what’s happening to me. One day I’m allsex is sex, nothing special, I can live without itand the next I’m craving it like an addict who can’t think of anything else.

“Did you actually need something? I really need to get back inside.” I fane aggravation.

“Yes, I need you to agree to visit me tonight.”
