“We uhh… have a different matter to deal with first I think,” Dove said, eyes still wide with surprise over what Keira had done as she helped Sanaa up from the floor.

I crossed my arms. “What could possibly take priority overPredatorbusiness?”

“Thisis Predatorbusiness,” Sanaa choked out, placing a protective hand over her non-existent belly as she glared at Keira. “I’m having one, after all,” she added, looking directly at me. “Y’all call thePredatorkids cubs all the time because the majority grow up and get inked.”

I narrowed my eyes. “The current generation ofPredatorsare still having kids right now. Whenthosekids get inked, we can start calling it a pattern. Andyouare not inked anyway.”

“But Kev is,” she countered, finding the nerve to smirk. “So it’ll be my baby’s birthright, won’t it?”

“No child of Kev’s will ever wearPredatorink.Kevdoesn’t even wearPredatorink anymore. We carved it off him,” I told her, not caring how cruel it sounded to her ears. “And if you actuallywantto be a mother? You’d do well to stay out of my face before I decide I want his whole fucking bloodline wiped from existence; don’t push me.”

“Why are you sobitter?” she sneered, obviously not catching on. Dove grabbed her arm, pulling her backward to step between us. “All this because he was going to break up with you, make us a family? You are one sick bitch!”

“I’mthe sick bitch?” I countered, waving Keira and Dove away from trying to calm the situation. “That nigga showed up at my house crying about not getting a job; showed up smelling like you, as a matter of fact. It was a goddamn monsoon outside, so I let him in because I felt sorry for him and he fucked me and kicked my ass as athank youfor my benevolence. So you tell me who thesick bitchis.”

Her bottom lip trembled as she clearly grappled with what I’d just revealed. She shook her head. “No.Nope.You’re a liar. He came to my house after he broke up with you. He was all beat up because you’d sicced those fuckinggoonsof yours on him. He told me how jealous you were, how he had to leave because you would send people—”

“Are youreallythis damn gullible?” I interrupted. “Kev and I weren’t even a couple, there was no breaking up to do. Glad to know I fought hard enough that he had to lie about getting jumped though; that actually kinda makes me feel good.”

“Where is he?” she cried, ignoring everything I’d said.

She was holding tight to the false reality he’d created for her.

“Somewhere he can only dream about the sun. Do you want to join him?” I asked, smiling at her. “Go be a happy fucking family? Huh?”

“I’m going to the police!”

“Do it,” I snapped, laughing. “Please, do it, I want to see what happens. Just a heads up though, that I have video evidence formyversion of this story, so… do with that what you will.” I looked away from her, to Dove. “Get this silly bitch out of my face, I’ve entertained this too long.”

Dove wasted no time.

Even with Sanaa fighting it, Dove dragged her out of the office and closed the door, leaving Keira and I alone.

“You gave her entirely too much,” Keira said, shaking her head as I took a seat next to her. “I could’ve handled it.”

“If you’d handled it, she would still feel the urge to seek me out to hear her story. I needed to be cruel to her so she’d know I don’t give a fuck.”

Keira nodded. “Point taken. You know we’re going to have to subsidize her, right? Or elimination is an option too.”

I rolled my eyes.

Predatorshad a rule about the children of inked members; we took care of our own. No one who wore ink was doing the deadbeat shit. You did right by your progeny by whatever means necessary or we were taking our ink back.

Most chose the first option.

Sometimes though, they needed help, and of course we gave it. Nobody affiliated with us was going to starve on our watch.

This was a special case though.

“She can make whatever assets Kev has work; that’s the absolute most I’m willing to do. Give her his shit.” I shrugged. “And I’m only doingthat’cause I hope she fucks over it all,” I said, as the door opened again and Dove stepped back in.

“I am so sorry about that,” she offered, hurrying around the desk to her seat. “She showed up a few minutes before y’all with a sob story and I thought I’d be able to get her out of here. And Tati… I wasn’t expecting you at all.”

I shook my head. “It’s not your fault, D. Let’s get into these numbers.”

Twenty minutes later,we were headed out of the club and Sanaa was nowhere to be seen.

“I’ll have to talk to Gavin,” Keira complained as we navigated back toward the front of the club. “The other location might require a bit more infrastructure investment than we thought.”
