I smirked as I met her gaze. “Nowwhydo you make that sound like a problem?”

“Don’t start…”

“But you had so much to say to me about Onyx, why can’t—”

I stopped abruptly, going quiet and still as that same uneasiness from before hit me again. I’d chalked it up to being ambushed by Sanaa before, but… no.

That wasn’t it.

My hand was already at my waist, pulling my gun as my gaze scanned the club’s midday crowd.

There wasdefinitelydanger here.

Keira put a hand on my shoulder, letting me know where she was. I didn’t have to look to know she’d drawn her weapon too, neither of us making a sound to raise the alarm in the darkened club.

Just when I wondered if maybe Iwasexperiencing some sort of post-traumatic paranoia… my gaze landed on her.

Across the room, perfectly illuminated in the indigo and fuchsia ombre lighting of the crowd, there she was, a woman I’d never seen before. Strikingly beautiful, deep dark skin, close faded haircut, nose ring.

She didn’t drop her eyes as I stared; she stared right back.

Who is she?

She shifted in her seat, offering her gaze to some man who’d approached her; that’s when I saw it.

Only barely, because of the way the light blurred the detail, but it was there.

A rose, tattooed near her left armpit.

I only glanced away to tell Keira, “Get Alicia Pelletier on the phone.”

By the time I looked back though… the woman was already gone.
