“It’s what I was born into,” she answered. “I have the stomach for it, so I get it done.”

“Interesting.”

She frowned at me, but didn’t say anything else for a few moments, so I took it as an opportunity to help myself to my plate.I paid no mind to her staring as I ate, but I could feel the questions radiating off her. So it was no surprise when she finally spoke up.

“Will you still be around after we finish with theMarauders?”

I shrugged, and then over a mouthful of pancake asked, “Why?”

“Because I want to know,” she snapped, giving me a stern look that probably left most people shook.

I felt it in my groin, and started to tell her, but decided on a different route of teasing instead. “Whydo you want to know? Don’t want to waste your time if I won’t be here next year?”

“Christmas lyrics? Really?” She rolled her eyes. “Anyway—we’re getting into legal cannabis, as you saw at the dispensary. It’s very lucrative, but potentially… no less dangerous than regular weed. We’re going to need security, at the dispensary and on our courier teams.”

I shook my head. “I’m not a corner boy, sweetheart.”

She sighed. “I’m not talking about you being a corner boy, but you’re right; you’renot. You do too much. The cops would seeyoua mile away.”

“Tell yourself whatever you need to.” I chuckled. “Y’all got armored trucks and all that?”

“We will. Especially since we’re looking into potentially doing our own growing.”

My eyebrows shot up. “Oh shit, so not just distribution?”

“Not if I have anything in it,” she replied, smirking. “I don’t like leaving money on the table. I want it all.”

She started to say something else, but her phone rang, and when she looked at it her face lit up.

“Excuse me,” she said, already standing as she tapped the button on the screen and put the device to her ear. “Hey, Mama!” she chirped. “What’s going on?”

Obviously,I watched her walk away like it was must-see TV, until I couldn’t anymore, and then went back to my previous engagement.

Why wouldn’t I, with the way her ass was moving in those shorts?

Yes, I had other things to be concerned about—like what my life would look like now that I was on Alicia’s radar. I recognized the oversight in impulsively showing up in Vegas now. I should have done a lot more investigation.

But once I knew what I knew, I couldn’tnotknow it, couldn’t not act on it.

I was too late to work out the original plan, so this thing with theMarauders, well… it would have to do.

My thoughts were interrupted by a notification chiming on Tati’s computer. It would have been easy to ignore, but it kept going off, so I moved around to where she’d been sitting to stop it, quickly realizing it was a video call from some type of private messenger.

I looked at the name, smirking when I realized it was Kev. I peeked around to see if Tati was anywhere in the immediate vicinity, and then parked myself right in front of the camera to answer it.

I immediately wished I’d had a camera set up to record his reaction.

Shock, then sadness, thenragebefore he was finally able to sputter, “What the fuck are you doing in her house?”

I shrugged.”Not much my man, I’m chilling. How you doing this morning?”

“Put Tati on the damn call,” he demanded, crossing his arms.

Looking silly as fuck.

“About that,” I said, peeking around for her again. “I think she’s gonna have to call you back bruh, she’s… occupied.”

“What?”
