“What?”

She pushed out a sigh before saying more. “He’s got a coupleThornswith him. I can only assume they’re... in the upside down or whatever the fuck you want to call it.”

Now I understood what the heavy breathing was about. “He played their song.”

“Yeah.”

“That’s not good.”

“No shit,” she quipped. “Not for anybody involved.”

“What do we do?” I asked, after we’d sat in silence a few moments. “How do we find out what his end game is?”

“I don’t know,” she replied, staring out the front window again, but this time, she wasn’t actually looking at anything. From the way her eyes moved, I could tell she was assessing the situation. “I’m not even sure what itcouldbe. The Gardenis tied to the Santiago cartel, they get taken down, and now Rojas is in charge. Maybe Renard didn’t like that, maybe it’s revenge. So he’s counting on stirring up enough tension to get thePredatorsto take him out.”

“It makes sense.”

“It does, but… I don’t know. I feel like I’m missing something,” she mused, shaking her head. “There’s a piece of this puzzle I need to figure out.”

I pressed my thumb into the indentation under my bottom lip, scratching as I tried to figure out my next words. Finally, I just spoke. “Why does it matter to you?” I asked, meeting her gaze as she turned in my direction. “This motorcycle club shit, isn’t it out of your purview?”

“Are you serious?” she asked, eyes narrowed.

“Yeah.”

“Nyx…ItookThe Gardendown, remember?” she said, tossing her hands up. “I destroyed the family business and put his brother in jail. He and Etienne may have had ideological differences, but they’re cut from the same monstrous cloth. I have to believe that it’s no coincidence that he’s here. Yes, there’s the Santiago cartel connection, all that, I know. But… again. It’s very convenient.”

She did have a point there.

I couldn’t blame her for being on high alert; when dealing with the Belrose family, it was necessary.

“I’m going to figure out how to get closer to Renard,” Alicia said, breaking a fresh wave of silence. “I’ve already got a couple irons in the fire. Including your old flame.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Myold flame?”

“Margeaux.”

Damn.

I legitimately hadn’t heard that name in the longest time.

“You know where Margeaux is?” I asked, trying not to let my genuine interest read as me being eager.

“She’s in Europe,” Alicia answered. “I sent somebody to get her.”

I smirked, shaking my head. “I hope you sent somebody who knew what they were doing.”

“Well I would have sentyou, but you’re a little occupied, aren’t you? Can’t have your old flame getting in the way of the new…”

I scoffed. “Don’t start that.”

“Oh, I already have,” she teased, reaching over to grab my chin. “Are you going to go see Tati today?” she sang.

“As a matter of fact, I am. Gonna help her move into a new place.”

“She’s moving? Good. She needs fresh energy around her anyway. Has she said anything about Kev?”

“Nah, not to me. And Blue wants to let him stew anyway,” I told her. “I think there’s just so much going on, it’s hard to know where to focus the energy.”
