She nodded. “Yep.”

“But… when me and Blue talked to Manny. That day I saw you outside… it was like he was completely spooked by Renard.”

“Who isn’t?” she asked, moving to the end of the seat so she could stand up. “Remember, Rojas didn’t know Renard was funding him. My dear old disgusting uncle fucked with his head. TheRenegadoswere losing suppliers, customers drying up, etc., all orchestrated by Renard. And then, when Manny was desperate, he swooped in to save the day.”

I nodded. “So… Renard being in Vegas was always about the Santiago Cartel and Rojas? He didn’t chase Jesse down?”

“I don’t believe so,” Margeaux shook her head. “Now, I did know where was Jesse because Renard did, but Renard only knew because of Rojas. OnceThe Gardenfell, they needed to make sure that Santiago connection stayed alive, by making sure Rojas succeeded. Part of that success was becoming allied with the other motorcycle clubs in the area.”

“Like thePredators,” I murmured.

“Exactly,” she said. “If Alicia hadn’t takenThe Gardendown… the Santiago Cartel would be where theRenegadosare and there wouldn’t have been any real attention for Vegas. But, on the other hand, you never would’ve known where your father was.”

I nodded. “So… I guess it all worked out like it was supposed to.”

“Yeah,” she agreed. “I guess it did. Take care of yourself, okay?”

“You do the same.”

I blinked and she was gone.

But that wasn’t new or surprising for Margeaux.

I grabbed the drink she’d left and sat back with it, running over everything she’d just put together for me.

And thinking about how…happyshe’d seemed.

It was a little alarming.

I chalked it up to her getting closer to her desired outcome of ridding the world of Belrose men— the last mission she and I had in common.

I felt eyes on me, and looked up to find her smirking at me from across the room, so I raised the glass, then drank.

To whoever got to that motherfucker first.
