“You’re an employee of Banna, Liv. I part own the company; therefore, I have access to your personnel file––your address is listed in there. Now, I have a couple of questions I’d like for you to answer.”

“Okay.”

“You really didn’t know Ronan was from New York?”

“No, he never told me, and I never asked.”

“When did you realise he was a part of the club?”

“Tonight, when he came storming into the bar and grabbed my arm.”

Killian’s head turns and he looks directly at me when he asks his next question, waiting for me to answer. “You really only realised tonight?”

“Yes… I thought there was something familiar about you and Finn the night I met you, but I didn’t realise you were Ronan’s brothers until tonight.”

Thankfully, he nods and turns back to the road. My heart is racing, partly from the interrogation, partly from the stress of no longer having a job, and partly from the fact he took his eyes off the road for so long. I try to steady my heart rate when his next question throws me off balance.

“Are you single?”

“What the hell does that have to do with anything?”

“Just answer the damn question.”

“Yes, I’m single.” What the fuck?

“Then please tell me why the fuck you live in one of the most dangerous parts of the city?”

My eyebrows furrow in confusion, I really don’t understand what is happening here, and it’s giving me a headache. I take a deep breath and turn to face him as he pulls onto my street and heads to my block.

“Killian, I appreciate the ride home, and I get that you want to protect your brother, but why I live where I do has absolutely nothing to do with you. I never meant for any of this to happen, I never meant to upset Ronan, and I am sorry for whatever I did to piss him off, but none of you have to worry… I will never darken the clubs’ doors again, he will never have to see me again, and you won’t ever have to worry about me hurting him. Thank you for the ride.”

I don’t give him a chance to say anything as the moment he pulls up outside my apartment, I jump out and run into the building. I make it to the floor below mine when my neighbour comes out with one of his friends––these guys give me the creeps.

I try to walk straight past him, but his friend laughs as he cages me in next to the stairs. “Hey, hottie, you wanna have some fun?”

I try pushing him away, but he’s locked his body solid in front of me.

“I suggest you let the lady past.”

I look up to see Killian standing in the middle of the hallway, looking pissed and extremely intimidating. My neighbour and his friend just laugh. Oh shit, these guys have no idea who Killian is.

“Killian, it’s fine. Paul, please let me past.” I push him, but he doesn’t move, and he doesn’t take his eyes off Killian as his friends starts towards him. Killian just smirks and loosens his suit jacket.

Oh shit.

I push Paul again while trying to get Kilian’s attention, but it just seems to piss Paul off. He turns to me, putting his hand on my chest above my boobs and pushing me against the wall. He runs his other hand up legs as I squirm and try to pull out of his grasp. He just leers at me.

“Get off me, you asshole.”

I’m distracted trying to stop Paul’s hands from roaming any further, and I don’t realise Killian has knocked the other guy out until he steps behind and pulls out a gun, releasing the safety.

“I suggest you take your hands off her and walk away before I put a bullet in you.”

Paul freezes momentarily before taking a step to the side, raising his arms in surrender. He looks at Killian and pales, then runs back into his apartment, leaving his friend lying on the floor in the hall.

I look at Killian and roll my eyes. I’m so fucking angry right now.

“Are you fucking serious right now? So help me, Killian, if I get kicked out of this apartment because of this, I’m going to kick your ass. Now leave.”
