“You’re right about our lives, Ronan, they are dangerous, but our women, they choose to be with us––they choose to take that risk. Liv is safer with you than she is without you. And knowing that you have an amazing woman to come home to every night, believe me, there’s nothing better.”

Connor and I spend another fifteen minutes shooting the shit on the balcony, but just when we’re about to head down to help everyone move the rest of the customers on, the club descends into chaos.

Men in black and faces covered storm the building from the front and the back, guns out, shooting at anything that moves.

“WHAT THE FUCK? EVERYBODY GET DOWN,” Connor yells, running for Alex and Bella, pulling them down.

I’m frozen to the spot, looking for my brothers and Liv. A bullet rips through my arm just as Connor pulls me to the floor. I try getting away from him.

“Stop, Ronan, stop, calm the fuck down, man, you’ve been shot.”

“I don’t give a shit, we need to get down there, Connor, we need to go, now.”

“We don’t have our weapons, and we can’t leave Lex and Bella without cover, we have to stay here. Killian and Finn will be okay.”

I start to crawl away from him, but he stops me. “They’ll take care of her.”

I look across to Alex and Bella, then back to Connor. I know he’s right, but rational thought is not with me right now. All I can her is the constant pop of bullets and people screaming.

My brothers and my girl are in the thick of it.

A few minutes later, it seems like the shooting is starting to ease. Connor and I make our way to the railing to look over the edge just as I see a guy raise his gun towards Killian.

“KILLIAN, LOOK OUT,” Connor screams at him, but before he has time to react, the guy’s finger squeezes on the trigger. We hear the pop of the bullet leaving the barrel and I turn to Killian just in time to see Liv jump in front of him, pushing him to the ground.

Connor and I race down the stairs as Dan and Finn take out the last of the guys who were shooting at the club.

Reaching the main floor, its carnage––there are injured patrons everywhere, blood spattered over every inch of the club. I ignore everything around me as I run to the spot where Liv and Killian went down.

When I round the side of the bar, I see Killian on his knees, his hands covered in blood. I reach them, falling to me knees as I scream.

“Arrgghhhhh.”

Everything starts to blur around me, voices sound like I’m underwater, and my body vibrates with rage. All I can focus on is Killian’s hands, the blood that covers them as he pushes onto Liv’s stomach, trying to stop the bleeding.

“Why? Mo ghrá, why would you do that?” I grab her hands––she’s so fucking cold, her skin is so pale, and her eyes are so fucking dull.

Tears stream down my face as she tries to squeeze my hand. “Couldn’t let you lose another, brother, thought I… had time…” As soon as she talks, the cloud starts to clear, and I feel like I can focus a little.

“Liv, I need you to save your strength. Stop talking, okay? The ambulance is on its way. I’m trying to stop the bleeding but you gotta help me out, you gotta hold on, okay?”

I watch Killian talk to her, tears in his eyes as she squeezes my hand again. I look down.

“Mad… Maddie…”

I don’t have a chance to say anything. Alex kneels on her other side, grabbing her other hand. “We’ve got her, we’ll take care of her, just save your strength, okay?”

The next few minutes happen in a blur. Police and paramedics descend on the club.

We’re pushed out of the way as they get to work on Liv. I don’t hear what anyone says, all I can focus on his her.

The police try to stop me from leaving with her, but Killian stops them. “Officers, that is his fiancée, let him go with her, we’ll stay and give our statements, and I’ll bring him to the station later.”

I don’t hear what else is said as he pushes me out the door towards the paramedics and the ambulance.

Sitting inside the back of the ambulance, I feel like my heart is being ripped from my chest as I watch the medic work on her. She’s in and out of consciousness, and I have no idea if she knows I’m here.

I grab her hand as tears stream down my face. “Please don’t leave me, mo ghrá. I’m sorry. I won’t survive if I lose you. Please, baby, I need you.”
