The moment I walk through the door and my eyes lock on hers, my demon breathes and her light breaks through my darkness.

“Ronan,” she croaks, her voice dry from being unconscious.

“Mo ghrá.” I race over to the bed as Alex moves to let me in, and Niamh watches from the other side.

“I’m so sorry that I pushed you away, forgive me.” I can’t hold back my tears as they roll down my face.

“Nothing to forgive… its okay.” Her hand is so cold as it folds over mine.

“Come on, girls, let’s get you two home.” Killian steps into the room, coming up on the other side of Liv. He leans down, kissing her forehead.

“No matter how many times I say it, it will never be enough. But thank you for saving my life.”

She smiles and nods at him, struggling to keep her eyes open.

The girls kiss Liv, then give me a hug and follow Killian out the door.

“Ronan…”

“Shhhh, sweetheart, rest.”

“Can you lay with me for a while, please.”

I stand, and she slides over the bed enough for me to climb in beside her. The moment I lay down, she snuggles into my side, and I wrap my arms around her, careful not to touch her wounds.

“I know you don’t want to be with me, but can you just stay for a while? I don’t really want to be alone.”

“I’m not going anywhere, mo ghrá. I made a mistake pushing you away. When I’m not with you, I’m surrounded in darkness, but you, you’re my light in the dark––my soul seeks you out. I’m only whole when I’m with you. You’re the other half of me. Please give me another chance?”

“I love you, Ronan.” Her voice is barely above a whisper. “I’m not sure when it happened, but I do.”

“Wait, does that mean…”

I feel her head move in a slight nod on my chest. “Yeah, it does, but can I sleep for a little? I’m so tired.”

“Yes, sweetheart, sleep. I’ll be right here when you wake.”

She doesn’t say anything else, falling asleep quickly. I feel myself start to drift off a little while later when the doctor comes in.

“You know you shouldn’t be on there with her?”

I just glare at him, not acknowledging his remark. “How long before she can come home?”

“That depends, we’ll monitor her for the next couple of days and if there are no signs of infection and she seems okay in herself then she should be home within a week. Be careful lying next to her and don’t be a nuisance for the nurses.” He chuckles to himself as he leaves.

I roll my eyes and look back down at her. I lay there watching her for the next few hours before sleep finally takes me, and I drift off with her in my arms.

“Good morning, big guy.”

“Good morning, sweetheart. How you feeling?” I lean down and kiss her forehead.

“Erm, I really need coffee, and is that all I get after I told you I loved you last night?”

I laugh, full genuine laugh. It’s so good to hear her sass. I lean in for another kiss. Our lips meet and it’s like the world stops spinning, just for a minute. I let her push her tongue into my mouth as it tangles with mine. She tries to deepen the kiss further, but I pull away.

“Easy, sweetheart, you’re not allowed to do anything too strenuous…”
