He kisses me again then groans as he climbs off the bed before he leaves.

Chapter 22

Leaving her this morning killed me, but I’d promised my brothers I would come to the gym, and I needed to blow off a little steam.

I’m still pissed about her Da knowing where she is, and I want to know how he knows. I’ve already been trying to access his phone and emails––I can access his tracker, but no content on his phone. Not yet, anyway. I’ll figure it out. I just hope I can figure it out before it’s too late. Seamus thinks it’s someone who he thought was loyal to him, but he can’t be certain.

I stand at the side of the octagon, watching Connor and Ronan go at it, and they are both seriously impressive fighters. Ronan is the better fighter, we all know it, but Connor is the only one who chose to do it professionally. Ro doesn’t like the attention, he prefers to use his skills to calm his demon.

Killian nudges me and hands me a water. We’d gone into the octagon first while Connor and Ronan were on the weights -- they’d both chosen to run here.

Taking a drink from the bottle, I try to stay focused on my brothers, but I can feel Killian’s eyes boring into the side of my head. “Wanna tell me what last night was about?”

Turning to face him, I scrunch my eyebrows in confusion. “What are you talking about?”

“Choosing to let Cara make a decision.”

I give my head a shake. I knew he’d be the one to question me. “She has a right to make her own decisions. She deserves to have some say.”

I turn my back on my other brothers to face Killian fully when he laughs. “What’s so damn funny?”

“You.”

I don’t bother saying anything, and I wait for him to elaborate.

“I’ve watched you your whole life, baby brother. You like to be in control of everything, all of the time. Letting her make her own decisions removes your control. From the second you found out she was pregnant, you went into caveman mode, saying you were getting married and that her and that baby were yours, and then, all of a sudden, you decide to let her have a say? I don’t buy it.”

“She said something to me the other day about never being allowed to make her own choices, and it hit home. And when Seamus said he was going to take her to keep her safe, it pissed me off. I wanted her to feel like she had a choice in what happens to her.”

“If she had chosen to leave you were never going to let her, were you?”

“No. But I also wanted to know where her head was at. I wanted to know if there was even a small part of her that wanted to be with me. Regardless of her answer, I was never going to let her leave, but she fights me at pretty much everything, and I just wanted to know how she really felt.”

“I think you’re the only one that couldn’t really see how she feels about you. Unlike you, she doesn’t hide her feelings well. Come on, let’s go get showered and head back, I’m sure you wanna see your girl and get going.”

Knowing Ronan and Connor will follow as soon as they’ve finished their session, we head into the locker rooms to shower and change.

An hour later, I follow Killian and Connor into my house, heading for the kitchen where we can hear the girls. I grab Kill before we get there and indicate for him to follow me into my office.

“What’s up?”

“You sure you don’t want to come with us on a ride today?”

“Nah, I need to spend the day with Bells.”

“We’ve noticed the tension with you two, is everything okay?”

“Yeah, man, her Da made an unwanted appearance in her life, says he wants to just spend time with her, but I think there’s more to it. We’ve had one or two disagreements. Anyway, what is you wanted? I can’t imagine it was to talk about Bells and me.”

“Nah. I, erm… I have something I wanted to ask you.”

Shit, this is my big brother. Why the fuck am I finding this so hard?

“Finn, talk to me… are you okay? What do you need?”

“Will you be my best man? I mean, if you want to. I know the others will be up there with me, and I just, I kinda––”

“Finn. Fucking absolutely, yes.”
