“I don’t want to hurt his feelings,” she mutters.

“The fucker has thick skin: he can take it. Even more now that he’s wearing Medley’s property patch. Looks good on him don’t you think? But it’s the smile he’s wearing along with it that completes his appearance. Medley is the best thing that ever happened to him.”

“Medley is not a thing.” She rolls her eyes. “But I do agree with you: those two belong together.”

“Like the two of us match with our issues, shared passion for horses, a love for pancakes, and the craving for therapeutic sex,” I tell her in a teasing way but deep down I’m serious as fuck.

Her eyes go thoughtful and for a heartbeat or two I think I’ve pushed her too hard, too fast, but then she grins and quips, “I’m not throwing a property patch on your ass before I’ve seen it naked. No matter how good your pancakes were.”

A bark of laughter rips from me and I guide her out of the stables while I mutter, “One day I’m going to be wearing it with my bare ass underneath it to show it off.”

Ramona snickers, “Showing off the leather cut or your bare ass?”

“When it comes to you? Both, darlin’.” I shoot her a wink and there’s desire filling her gaze.

I’m about to lean in and taste those lush lips again but Ivar bellows once more about steaks but I couldn’t care less; I’m hungry for something else. But I guess all good things come to those who wait. So, I’m going to patiently sit through dinner while my mind is on dessert, hoping it involves my tongue sliding through the lips of Ramona’s pussy.

CHAPTER FIVE

Four days later

– RAMONA –

“Woman, you have no shame,” I scold.

Cassia’s head whips my way, tearing her eyes off the new sheriff who is helping Perry and Ivar build a fence.

“What?” She shrugs. “He’s the one ripping his shirt off, it would be rude not to appreciate the scenery.”

“The daddy vibes aren’t throwing you off? Kids are a sticky mess from time to time.” I point in the direction of the four-year-old boy holding a sketch pad and a pencil but his focus is fully on Cassia’s horse instead of the drawing he’s making.

“Sweat sliding off his back is messy and somehow the urge rises within me to stroll right over and lick it off. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, okay? Besides, the kid? He’s not eating, drinking, peeing, or whatever now, is he? Nope. Kai is staring at Melody. Poor kid. I bet his father doesn’t own a horse, the way he’s looking at her longingly.”

Cassia owns Melody, a Shire horse. The mare is massive and truly has a magnificent appearance; it’s no wonder the kid only has eyes for her. Sonnet and Cassia arrived about twenty minutes ago. Sonnet on her bike and Cassia riding Melody.

I’m glad they came to visit. I miss all of them, and everything else for that matter. It’s weird how I fell into another routine without thinking. Away from the ranch and the other members of Valorous Sally MC. Of course, Medley is here with Ivar, though they have kept to themselves while Perry and I have been focusing on training the new stallion he welcomed onto his ranch and on Lieke, the foal.

Our connection is sizzling at every turn and yet there’s still something holding me back. I thought we could jump into bed to have sex; therapeutic sex like I suggested. But every time we kiss, I feel like I’m being pulled under into a delicious sea of bliss and eventually I slide into a panicked state.

As if I’m afraid to surrender; giving up control. It’s the same reason why walking into the bedroom where there’s a bed to sleep on freaks me out. Perry, on the other hand, works around everything without a fuss.

The first night he simply pulled me out of the bedroom and took me back to the living room where he put on a movie. I ended up falling asleep on the couch with a blanket thrown over the both of us. It was another morning waking up without screaming.

You can say I’m slowly getting there but I’m guessing the sexual frustration is now taking over, letting all of my insecurities run overtime. But every time I feel like I’m ready, I freak out. Perry must be so frustrated, but then again, he doesn’t show it; he’s caring, understanding, and all too perfect.

Another insecurity angle I’m struggling with; too good to be true. Yes, I’m twisted in the head and should just let everything go and get it over with. Gah. Now it feels like a chore I have to do.

A sharp pinch on my arm brings me back to the here and now.

“I don’t know what you were thinking about but your face told me it wasn’t a good thing,” Sonnet mutters. “And seriously, get back into the discussion because Cassia is about to piss off the sheriff she’s been ogling because she’s thinking about putting the kid on her horse without checking with the daddy first. Please be on team ‘be nice and responsible’ and talk some sense into her. All she ever does is piss that new sheriff off.”

I swing my head toward Cassia and she’s wearing a smirk. “What? It’s fun to watch his face contort to anger. He always wears this stony look when he’s dealing with everyone else.”

“Oh, for fuck’s sake,” Sonnet mutters.

I bump my shoulder against Cassia’s. “Come on, let’s go eyeball those sweaty dudes from up close so you can ask that daddy if it’s okay you’ll entertain his kid.”

“Fine,” Cassia grumbles and grabs the fence to gracefully jump over it and starts to stomp the sheriff’s way.
