Porsche and Sydney hung out at the clubhouse. Midway through the second movie Sydney had fallen asleep on the couch waiting for her dad to finish up with the men. After her third scolding of the gang of prospects at the bar Porsche had had enough and gathered the child in her arms and finally understood the phrase dead weight. Carrying the little girl across the way to her apartment the girl, exhausted probably more emotionally than physically, barely stirred as Porsche made her way to the apartment building’s front door.

Opening the door to the building and then unlocking her apartment door was going to be impossible. She didn’t think this through as she cradled the back of the little girl’s head. She would have to wake her up and have her walk herself.

“Porsche, hold on I can help you.” Zoe ran up and opened the door. Then took her keys and helped her into her apartment. Syd only stirred a bit once before falling back to sleep again.

Laying her on the bed, Porsche passed an older bear that had been a comfort to her when she was younger to the child who rolled on her side and returned to a deeper sleep. She needed to talk, let Mike know where she was and called up Hack only the man didn’t answer letting her get connected directly to the man in question.

Picking up on the second ring Mike’s deep voice carried over the phone, “Turbo, is Syd okay?”

The word Turbo brought a smile to her face. He was cute for nicknaming her, but she wondered if he understood what the sentiment meant. “Yeah, she is sleeping in my bed. I just wanted to let you know that I took her to my apartment.”

“Why?”

“Volume control for one thing, plus when she was awake I could see she wasn’t exactly comfortable with the wandering men. I just thought it would be easier for me at home. Take your time with the club, I know how small projects become gargantuan in a flash around here.”

“Okay, if you’re sure she’s fine I’ll come by when I’m done.”

“Yo, Bugs, you ready?” the sound of Mountain’s voice carried through the phone.

“Bugs?” she questioned, and Mike made a quick coughing noise and moved away.

“Long story, which apartment is yours?”

Porsche gave him her apartment number, since there was only fifty or so feet between the apartment buildings and clubhouse he should be able to find the place, if he got lost she’d wonder how he cleared the SEAL training. The singles with seniority and proven loyalty paid a few bucks for a place of their own. Maintenance fees more than actual building costs. Sure, they’d cut those costs by having the men build the place, but she couldn’t help feeling as if the safe place was a gift from the club.

Zoe smiled at Porsche when she went back out to the main room. “You would make a damn good mom.”

“Do you really think so? I haven’t thought about it much really.”

“I think you would make a great one.”

“Well, first I would have to find an Ol’ Man.” She laughed with her friend.

“What do you think about this little girl’s father?” Zoe’s eyebrows wiggled.

“He’s very handsome with muscles for his muscles, but I don’t think he’s in the market for a woman right now.” Porsche opened her fridge and offered a sparkling water to Zoe before they each crashed in a chair. “There’s a lot he has to deal with right now.”

Her eyes wandered to the closed door of her bedroom, then she put on the mask of contentment before turning her focus back to Zoe.

“What, you guys make a cute couple. I saw you two together. He seemed interested in you.” Zoe cracked the sparkling flavored water open. “Or maybe you were the only woman he saw in the place because he was going all daddy protector like anyone on the compound would ever hurt a child.”

“Hurt not, lest ye be hurt,” Porsche replied and Zoe narrowed her eyes at her.

“What old timey movie did you quote that from?”

“Not old timey,” Porsche scoffed waving a hand aimlessly. “Mallrats, but it was touch not in that case.”

“How can you remember movie quotes, but forget why you came in a room half the time?”

“Because wandering in a room rarely has purpose,” she said, nibbling on her thumbnail as her mind drifted and flowed with outstanding tasks that needed to be handled. The weight of which had been lifted for a moment when she was one on one with Sydney, now came crashing down around her making her snatch at a notebook and pen.

“Yo, Porsche? Where’d ya go?”

“I got off track watching Syd and suddenly remembered I need to get back to planning the men’s review.”

“It’ll keep,” Zoe said. “Besides you took the night off you have plenty of time to figure out the song list.”
