"Yer lord says you can point me in the direction of Lord Bennett's estate."

"I believe I can..." the man proceeded to give him a detailed description.

"I greatly appreciate it," Jonan said as he followed Henry to the door but then remembered the main from earlier.

"I believe I forgot somethin'.I shall be back,” Jonan lied and went back.

While trying to findthe location where the servants had fled, he saw a woman standingin the dim light of a corridor, dusting portraits and waiting for him.

"Yera Scotsman and a laird, nae?" she asked and Jonan nodded.

"Did yewant to tell me somethin'?" he asked.

"Aye," she said. “I have heard rumors about Lord Bennett. Lord Turner is aware of the young lord's cruelty, but he benefits from him, so he does nothing to assist his daughters."

“I have never met a man who despised his own children,” Jonan thought out loud.

“He has always been that way. For most of their lives, Nora was the one that protected Amelia. They never ken their mother, poor girls,” the woman said with a deep sigh before she suddenly grabbed Jonan’s arm. “Please save them!”

“I will,” he said.

"AScotsman, named Callan, may come here seeking me.Tell him to find me at Lord Bennett’s estate,” he stated.

“Aye, I shall deliver yer message," she replied with a bow.

Jonan handed her some change, and she looked up at him, puzzled. “If ever ye need to escape this place. There is a clan far from here—me clan, McKay. Ask of me, and ye shall be welcome and safe," he added and left.

“I have been looking everywhere for you,” Henry raised his voice when hefinally spotted Jonan.

Giving the man a cold look, he mounted his horse and started galloping away. But by the time he set off again, it was dark out and knew he had to find a place to set up camp.

He was about to start a fire when he heard footsteps in the darkness.

"Who is it?" He inquired, and the footstepsstopped. “I have a weapon with me ."

"I am not your enemy," the English woman said softly.

“Then show yerself!”

"You have a weapon, and I am defenseless," she replied.

“Show yerself.”

A small woman wearing a cloakemerged from the woods and when she pulled it back—

“Nora?Thank God I found ye!"

Nonetheless, the woman did not respond to him as he expected. Her eyes were duller than those of the woman he had fallen in love with.

“Amelia?” he asked.

“Yes, how do you know my sister, Nora?” she asked.

“I am her husband.”

“The angels themselves must have sent you. Please, you must help my sister! She is in trouble. I fear what Lord Bennett might do to her…”
