Everything about the scene before me made my skin prickle. It wasn't right, and the desire to flee overwhelmed me again, but I couldn't move. I was held hostage by fear and curiosity.

The young man shoved away from the Alpha, who stumbled backward, his cock still hard and throbbing. The wolf growled with displeasure.

"Kiss me," the young man moaned, wrapping his arms around the Alpha's neck and pulling him down.

The wolf gave him a cocky grin, digging his fingers into the young man’s ass before leaning in to press their mouths together. The kiss was quick, but everything changed the second their lips met. The Alpha stood motionless as if in a trance, his arms hanging useless at his sides. The young man grabbed his robes, tossing them aside, before turning his attention back to the wolf.

"Lay down," he said softly, his tone almost polite.

The Alpha kneeled onto the soft earth and situated himself onto his back. The hair on the back of my neck prickled, and goosebumps scattered across my skin. I ducked down a little lower, careful not to be seen, as fear rose in my gut.

The young man sat down next to the wolf and ran his hands gently over his bare chest. He turned the Alpha's head, looking over his features. He caressed the Alpha's nose, cheeks, and lips with an almost loving expression. Then he slapped his face hard. The sharp crack startled me, and I hunkered down a little more, unable to tear my eyes away.

The young man giggled, then returned his hand to the Alpha's chest. He slowly dragged a single fingernail right between the wolf's pecs. A dark line appeared on the Alpha's skin in its wake, and almost immediately, it began to bleed. The thick, red substance poured over his chest like a curtain.

The young man smiled, then flattened his hand and began working his fingers under the wolf's skin. He moved with such ease, it was almost as if he were simply slipping his hand beneath a shirt.

The skin on the Alpha's chest peeled away from his body, leaving his raw, pulsing muscle exposed. The young man licked his lips and lowered his head, his sharp teeth flashing white in the moonlight.

I jerked behind the tree and placed both hands firmly over my mouth to keep from screaming. I shouldn't be here. This was one of the monsters the elders of our pack warned pups about. This was why Omegas didn't belong outside the village. This was how I was going to die.

I pushed my back into the tree’s trunk as hard as I could, wishing it would open up and swallow me whole.

The wet sound of tearing flesh and cracking bones filled the air as I tried not to cry. A rush of liquid and the smacking of lips made my throat tighten and my stomach churn. I gagged as quietly as I could, heaving silently into my hands.

As quickly as the rush of sound had consumed me, it was suddenly quiet.

I didn't move. Too terrified to breathe.

Slowly the young man appeared from around the tree. His gaze was squarely on my face as if he was expecting to find me sitting there. He was still naked, his arms and mouth smeared with glistening, red blood that dripped softly down his body.

He smiled sweetly, displaying sharp pointed teeth. His black, wet eyes dragged over my face, and he cocked his head.

"Hello."

The River’s Edge

Tzidal

The young mansmiled down at me. His bright, white teeth contrasting wildly against the deep crimson blood that coated his lips and dripped down his chin.

I opened my mouth to speak or scream. I didn't know which. But nothing came out, fear rendering my voice useless. A weak sob worked its way up my throat, and I gasped for air, not realizing I had been holding my breath.

The young man stepped slowly into the water, ignoring my panicked state as hot tears poured down my cheeks. I wanted to run. Through the forest, past the spider nest tree, back through the border, and all the way home. But my body refused to move.

"Did you enjoy the show?" the young man asked sweetly as he dipped his lithe form into the shallow water. He shivered and sucked in a breath through clenched teeth, letting himself settle in the river.

"I'm sorry," I whispered. I had no idea what else to say.

"That's okay," he smiled, washing his face. "I liked it." He gave me a wink, letting his hands glide over the surface of the flowing water. It swept the thick, red blood off his hands, making them pale white once again.

I let out a shaky breath, feeling...off. My body was still wound tight, but my hands were steady, fear slipping away like the blood on the young man's fingers. He leaned toward me and smiled. He exuded such a calming aura, despite the gore. And for the first time since leaving home, I didn't feel scared.

"What are you?" I couldn't help but ask.

"A siren. Scared?" he asked with a teasing lift to his voice.

His features had somehow softened, and he looked almost sweet and childlike. It stopped my bones from shaking and soothed me. It had to be a trick, but I decided to let it calm me. At least for now.
