"What are you looking at?" Lex practically yelled at Joon. I looked up to see the Alpha's eyes pull away from me once again.

Joon growled low in his throat at the siren. "I was scanning the tree line. Just because we aren't in immediate danger doesn't mean it won't find us."

Lex looked him over and snorted. "The trees. Right," he scoffed.

"Why are you here?" Joon demanded, his voice deep and suddenly angry. "What are you doing with this Omega?" He motioned to me.

"He's my guide," I said, confused by his sudden aggressive attitude. What did it matterwhyLex was here? I enjoyed his company, and I didn't need Joon's temper running him off.

"Yes, butwhy?" the Alpha asked again, his words slow and deliberate.

"I want to see how this story ends," Lex answered, unfazed by Joon's hostile stare.

"What story?"

"This little Omega is absolutely determined to kill the Alpha that murdered her mate. She might be the angriest wolf I've ever encountered. I can feel the rage pouring off of her when she talks about it, and it's positively mouthwatering. But more than anything, I love a good story, and it would be wild if she actually pulled it off. I mean, she won't. But it would be so great if she did."

"What do you mean I won't pull it off?" I asked, defensive and tense.

"Tzidal," Lex sighed. "You are too small and sweet. As angry as you are, and as bad as you want it, that Alpha will rip you to pieces. And if he doesn't, you won't have it in you to kill him. You're too kind."

"Kind people can still kill. In fact, we may do it better than you. No one ever expects us," I said, my voice loud and firm. I locked my eyes on his, holding Lex with barely contained outrage. "I will kill Hida, I will feel his blood on my hands, and I will release my mate from the torment of an unjust death. That Alpha is as good as dead.”

"I do adore your passion, little one," Joon laughed, a dimple displaying deep in his cheek. I instantly hated it.

I swallowed hard and tried like hell not to cry. I didn't want to look weak. Not right now. Not when they were confirming all my worst fears; they thought I was a joke.

"See what I mean? How could you not want to see what will happen?" Lex said, turning to Joon.

I growled high in my throat at how quickly they dismissed me. I knew they didn't believe me, but I didn't need them to. I just needed a guide and a blade. The rest was up to fate.

"This seems like a lot of trouble to put yourself through just because you're bored," Joon scoffed, looking at Lex as he settled himself on the forest floor.

"I'm over four hundred years old. Nothing amuses me anymore. I'm always bored. At least until recently." He winked at me.

"Why did this wolf kill your mate?" Joon asked.

"I don't know.” I deflated a bit and shook my head, hating the memories that flashed through my mind. "They asked to see a mark that he's had since birth." I grazed my fingers over my ribcage, remembering exactly where the small crescent Moon once graced his skin. How I had loved to trace it with my fingers...

I pulled myself away from my thoughts, folding my hands in my lap. "Then they killed him."

Joon sat stiff, with wide eyes.

"Fuck," he said.

Joon

My breath caughtat the realization that I might share more in common with the small Omega than just a need to get through the forest.

I hesitated, reluctant to speak. "Were there," I cleared my throat, "any other wolves with this Alpha, Hida? Or did he act alone?"

"Two others," she said, watching me with narrowed eyes as my scent shifted. I was on edge, and it was clear she could sense it.

"Byna. Was that one of them?"

"No." She shook her head, thinking. "Well, I don't know. I only know two of their names. Hida and Byriel."
