"Omega, please," I said softly, trying to refocus my mind and wolf. "It isn't safe outside of your village. Let me take you home." My wolf lashed out within me, refusing to let him go. He was ours. Mine.Mate.

I tried to hide my shock as my wolf settled in his decision. I could feel it deep in my bones and pulsing through my veins. He was mine.

"I can't go back," he whispered, looking into my eyes. "This was my fault. I let those alphas in. Everyone was killed because of me. Please, alpha." The swirl of blue and green in his eyes slowed with his breath.. "Let me stay. Keep me with you. Please."

Fuck.

I shut my eyes quickly, feeling them burn red, my wolf inching forward to claim the sweet omega. I sucked in a breath, then immediately regretted it. Blue was too close. He was all I could see, taste, and smell.

"Blue, sweetie," Lex said softly somewhere next to me.

"If you force me to go home," Blue whispered, "I'll refuse to tell you where to go, and we'll wander the forest forever."

I smelled Joon's rage before he spoke, his growl filling the skies. Opening my eyes, they landed on a cowering Blue.

"You will show us where you live. Now!" Joon commanded.

Blue clenched his jaw tight, a high-pitched whine pushing from his throat. Tzidal rushed to him, but he backed up, not letting her touch him.

Joon took a careful step forward, his eyes trained on the defiant omega. "Tell me," he seethed. Tzidal growled high in her throat at her mate, but Joon's eyes didn't leave Blue.

Quickly, I closed the space between Blue and me, not letting Joon any closer. Confusion creased Joon's brow at my movement, but he quickly turned his attention back to the omegas, his dominant energy pushing into the air.

Blue doubled over, and his body shook as his knees hit the dirt, gagging hard. The force he was using to defy Joon was making him sick.

A vicious growl burst from me at the sight of Blue's pain, and I immediately scooped him up in my arms.

Twin lines settled between Tzidal's brows, but she didn't protest as I held him. She just looked at me. Her eyes narrowed ever so slightly. I could feel that she saw through to my carnal intentions. She saw through everyone.

"He's not going to tell us, and we're not going to make him," I said forcefully to Joon. "We just need a different plan."

Joon cocked his head, moving his gaze over my face. He shared a quick look with his mate, but neither pointed out my possessive behavior. I was thankful.

My pull to Blue was just too much, and I was sure the adrenaline of battle was making it much worse. I just needed to calm down. Then I'd be able to think properly. But the truth was, I already knew I'd never fucking let him go.

Blue was mine, whether he wanted it or not.

"Are you hungry?"Joon asked.

He was still stiff with frustration at Blue's defiance, but thankfully he had let it go. I spent all day holding his hand and caressing his arm to settle him, and our bond was finally starting to ease.

My stomach rumbled in response, and I smiled, pushing into his side. He smelled so good. My wolf was itching for his touch. There was a reason newly mated wolves secluded themselves from their pack for a few weeks after bonding. Even after all the horrors we had witnessed, the lack of his attention was driving me insane, and I could sense he felt the same.

My wolf didn't care about grief or pain or prophecies. She just wanted to be claimed.

Joon smiled down at me with soft eyes. "How about you rest, and I'll hunt?" Not waiting for me to answer, he called Lex over.

Lex and Blue had been quietly chatting all day, lost in their own world. I was thankful for the siren. Blue needed love and affection, and I struggled to give him what he needed. My pull to Joon was overriding everything else.

"Will you stay with the omegas while Byriel and I hunt?"

Lex nodded, a curious look on his face. "I guess?" he said as if it were a question.
