“Harrison has put on a whole kilo this week,” April said.

I smiled, leaned forward and gave the kid a raspberry.

“Who’s a big boy, then?” I said, making him squeal.

“We’re thinking of selling the house,” April said.

“You are? Where are you going to move to?”

“There’s a place Kurt looks after when the owners are away. In Howick. They’ve asked us to move into the guest house.”

“Awesome.”

“It’ll be tight.”

“But free rent, right?”

“Yeah. There’s that.”

She seemed distracted.

“What’s bothering you, April?” I asked.

She looked me in the eyes.

“It’s Sean,” she said. I stiffened. “He’s a mess.”

“So I’ve heard. I’m sorry.”

“Are you?”

“What does that mean?”

“Do you even know what you’ve done to him, Kylee?”

“I know he’s upset.”

“Upset? His world has been shattered. And you don’t seem to care.”

“I do care,” I whispered.

“I just don’t understand,” she said.
