Her lips purse. “That doesn’t make it easy to take him out. That’s a lot of witnesses.”

“You want to back out?”

“Not a chance.”

We scale the large brick wall to sneak into the compound. Luna’s ass is fantastic as she climbs the wall effortlessly. She looks over her shoulder, catching me checking her out. I wait for her to tell me off, but she only laughs. It’s soft and sweet.

Each day we’re together, she shows me more of her playful side.

I follow her, my feet landing in the plush grass, not making a sound. I take a few pictures, not wanting to waste time out here.

Luna

Finstandsbehindme, and immediately my body registers his presence. My stomach flutters in reaction, but I refuse to give any thought to it. The mansion is eerily stagnant. With a fight being a couple of days away, there should be more commotion.

Both of us memorize the area; each step is counted. We make our way into the basement of the house through a back door. “I think our best way to get Ron would be to attack after the fight when he’s on his way home. He’ll be on a high from a good selling night, and his guard could be lowered,” I whisper.

Fin puts up his hand, and I stop. That’s when we hear the voices. By the sounds of it, Ron is having a presale right now. I gulp when I see Demetri Sokolov in the room. He’s frightening, but I guess being the head of the Bratva does that to you.

My heart rate accelerates, and I second guess if being with Fin is the right thing. Fin thinks this contract on Ron is all business, but it’s actually personal as well. Ron’s been asking around about evidence found on Fin’s father. If Fin doesn’t already know I’m responsible for his sister’s death, he will soon. But what scares me the most is him finding out why I wanted to ruin his father in the first place. I try holding my breath to stay silent.

I can already see Fin’s mind working on how we can take them by surprise. This would be the perfect opportunity, but I hesitate. I want to get Ron first, without Fin around. Seeing the Bratva’s leader, Demetri Sokolov, here makes this trickier. I don’t want my family to be on the Bratva’s radar any more than we need to.

Fin must take my still posture as some sort of signal. He jumps into action, shooting into the room. I force all my other thoughts out and go with my gut. It leads me to follow Fin, shooting at Ron. His personal guard shoots once before Fin takes him out.

Ron and everyone else slip through different doors hidden in the wall, leaving the room vacant. It’s like they vanished. I point to where Ron went, and Fin follows.

I circle the room, trying to find where the other hidden doorway is. There must be underground tunnels that lead to escape routes all over the place.

I’m pushed backward, the motion catching me off guard. “Hello, Luna.” Ron is holding a knife to my throat, and a gun is aimed at my chest. “Why are the Russians asking questions about you?” he asks.

"I thought the first question would be why I haven’t killed you yet.”

A sinister chuckle leaves him. “You should be more worried about what will happen when you can’t kill me. There’s a reason no one has ever been stupid enough to take that contract.” He pushes his gun harder into my chest, above my heart. With each beat, I can feel the pressure against me. “With my knowledge, you should try to keep me happy, not kill me,” he scolds.

My lips purse as I study his face. “We’ve never been friends.”

“No, but I have the power to make your life miserable. What if Fin found out your truth?”

My low growl vibrates against my teeth. The knife is right on my jugular; one little movement and he can kill me within seconds.

My quick breaths are making it feel like the room is closing in on me. This is why I need Ron dead. He knows too much.

“Maybe we can reach some sort of agreement though.” He shrugs, looking more intimidating than the last time we ran into each other. I refuse to cower. Fury burns in my veins because he’s made me feel helpless and weak in this position. A feeling I vowed to never feel again. I’ve worked hard to be where I am today.

“What do you want?”

He whispers in my ear, “For Fin to die.”

I pretend to think about it. I couldn’t kill him six years ago. If anything, him coming back into my life reminds me I would never be able to do that.

“He killed the love of my life. I want the universe to fuck him. I want him to feel what it’s like to look into the eyes of the woman he loves and know she’s about to murder him. I want him to feel the pain. Even with that, he’s getting off easy.”

My body jerks, hearing that impossible notion. It’s impossible. Could he love me?Holy shit, Fin loves me. I’m flabbergasted; my mind whirls as I think back to all his actions around me. Ron is staring at me to say something. He grins proves he knows he’s gotten to me. “If I say yes, you’ll let me go?”

He rubs his nose down the side of my cheek. “Of course. But now I’m not the only person who knows your secret. That’s my collateral. You kill Fin, and then I’ll kill the collateral.”

My heart is pounding. My ears ring from the sensation. I lick my suddenly dry lips, my voice thick and unsteady. “Who’s the collateral?”
