He had. And he had thrown away someone who could have been good for him if he had the time to notice.

“You worried us when you disappeared like that.” Cedric rubbed the back of his neck. “We couldn’t contact you. Your sister had to tell us that you were married.”

Chantelle winced.

“I’m sorry. I really wanted you guys there, but Wade refused.”

“He controlled everything.”

“Unfortunately.” Chantelle bowed her head. “I can’t believe I let him do that. I said I would never have a man control me. It won’t happen again.”

She looked so vulnerable that Cedric couldn’t help himself. He approached her and drew her into his arms, hugging her gently as she sank into his embrace. Her wet clothes stuck to him, but he didn’t care. Just holding her was worth it.

“You don’t have to think about him anymore.” He stroked her hair. “You’re away from him now, and you’re back with us. The group is back together.”

“Yeah. The group.” Chantelle sighed. “I like the sound of that.”

They stood in silence for a moment, Cedric enjoying the feel of Chantelle in his arms. This was what he had thought about for months. Now it was happening, and he was reluctant to let go.

“God, I’m getting you soaked.” Chantelle pulled back and stared at his sweater. “I’m sorry.”

“It’s fine. I’ll dry off.” Cedric nodded at the bathroom door. “You go take your shower. Then we’ll sort out your car in the morning.”

“In the morning?” Chantelle’s mouth dropped open. “You mean you’re letting me stay over?”

“Why not? We shared a house for two years. It can’t be that difficult.”

Although they only had three bedrooms, Cedric didn’t want to think of Chantelle getting into bed with the other guys. He would have to take the couch.

And suffer a sleepless night with his dreams full of Chantelle.

“I...I guess.” Chantelle bit her lip. “Thanks, Cedric. I’m glad I bumped into you three.”

Cedric didn’t answer, but he agreed with the sentiment. He headed towards the door.

“I’ll leave you to sort yourself out. We’ll be downstairs if you want anything else.”

Like me. I’ll be downstairs if you want me.
