Darren’s face went red.
“Yes...”
“So offering all three of us...”
“Do you think that’s going to go down well? Marigold doesn’t seem to be the type to agree to that.”
“Do you want to fight over her? Allison’s got Leon and Stephen, and she’s found a happy medium. What’s wrong with adding one more? The focus would be on Marigold, and making her feel like a queen. I know I’d certainly be able to do that if given half the chance.”
Darren still looked unsure. Nathan could understand it; being a monogamous man, it wasn’t easy to share someone they loved. But he wasn’t about to back down.
“Guys?”
They turned. Allison was coming down the hall towards them. She looked solemn. Nathan could immediately tell there was something wrong.
“You okay, Allison?”
“Not exactly.” Allison looked from Nathan, to Jake, and then to Darren. “I need to talk to you three. It’s about Marigold.”
Nathan stiffened. Darren straightened up.
“Is she okay? I just left the office, and she looked okay.”
“I don’t know if you could call it okay.” Allison took a deep breath. “She asked me to tell you guys something, and she’s too scared to say it herself.”
“You’re not helping, Allison.” Jake said. “What is it?”
From the look on Allison’s face, it was big. Nathan couldn’t stop the knot from building in his belly. Had something happened? Was Marigold sick? He stepped towards Allison as she hesitated.
“Allison? What’s wrong with Marigold?”
Allison took a deep breath.
“She’s pregnant.”
