“They’re going to try to get me either way,” Harper says. “What if I keep it simple and relatively harmless? Start with some small pranks?”

“Oh, I can help you with that,” Liam says.

“No,” Sadie says. “Your pranks are deadly. We can control the monsters. Summon them and send them back to where they came from. It’s a perfect solution.”

“I don’t want to kill monsters, either,” Harper says.

“They don’t die,” Liam says. “They just go back to their realm until they regenerate or are summoned again.”

“The shadow you sent back could come right back if someone called it,” Sadie says.

“It might be worth it,” I say. “In the meantime, don’t get yourselves killed before I find another way out of this.”

They’re already making plans when I leave them in the room. I hope it works. I know deep down, the best option is for Harper to bind her magic to someone else. I just hope whoever she chooses to bind with can handle it when the time comes.
