“Maybe,” he says. “But we got the monster. Did you get yours? You didn’t die did you? Maybe we’re both dead.”

“Neither of us is dead and nobody’s going to die,” I say.

“My dad would be so happy if I died,” he says. “Take his secret to the grave.”

“Don’t talk like that,” I say. “Sadie went to get help.”

Footsteps sound and I look up in time to see Sadie and Adrian racing toward us.

Adrian is on his knees in front of Liam in a heartbeat.

“You can help him, right?” I ask.

Adrian doesn’t even look up at me. “Yes.”

His hands hover over Liam’s chest and he’s totally silent. I’ve never seen him so focused.

I’m holding my breath and I’m pretty sure everyone else in the hall is too.

Liam winces and cries out. I grab his hand and squeeze. “Shh, it’s going to be okay.”

Adrian drops his hands. “He’s stable now. We should get him to the hospital. They can take over from here.”

“You can’t fix him the rest of the way?” I ask.

He shakes his head. “I can control life and death but I can’t stitch up wounds. He’ll live. His soul is safe. He needs his body healed.”

“Corbin, Damon, help him to the hospital. They can’t know I was involved,” Adrian says. He rises and turns to walk away.

“That’s it?” I ask. “You’re going to leave?”

“It’s better this way,” he says. “Less questions.”

“Why can’t we just tell them we came to you for help?” I ask.

“Trust me on this, love,” he says.

My cheeks heat at his use of the wordlove. He’s never called me that before and he’s certainly never admitted to us having any sort of relationship in front of others before.

Though, I suppose after our conversation in my dorm earlier in the week the cat was sort of out of the bag.

Damon and Corbin are supporting Liam between them and they begin to take slow steps toward the staircase.

“This isn’t how I wanted our first threesome to go,” Liam says.

I can’t help but smile. If he’s cracking jokes, it must mean he’s feeling better. “Slow down there, tiger,” I say. “You’re not joining any threesomes till you’re all healed.”

“Is that an invitation?” he asks.

“Don’t count on it,” I say.

Sadie slips her arm through mine and we follow the guys down the hall. “You okay?”

“I’m fine,” I say. “Are you okay? You’re not hurt?”

“No, I’m good. Liam decided to charge in before we came up with a plan. Tried to be a hero. Monster got him good. Corbin and I took it out and then we got Liam stabilized as best as we could.”

“Thank you,” I say. “And I’m sorry I put you through this.”
