“Don’t be,” she says. “We all know this is the only option you have.”

I shake my head. “No way. I’m not doing this again. It’s not worth the risk.”

“You have to,” Sadie says. “We’re all willing to help you with this. And we all know you have to get to that first place spot with so many points you can’t be touched.”

“Not if this is the price,” I say. “I’m not willing to sacrifice any of you for me. We’ll find another way.”

Sadie frowns. “I don’t think there is another way. Unless you want to start playing dirty.”

“We’ll think of something,” I say.

When we’re back upstairs, Corbin and Damon turn so I’m facing them and Liam.

“Everyone alright?” I ask.

“We’re good, doll,” Liam says.

He’s clearly still delirious but I suppose that’s what’s helping him not feel the pain. I wonder if there was poison in the claws of whatever creature sliced him up.

“We’ll take him from here,” Corbin says. “No reason to involve you two.”

“Wait, no,” I say. “I’m going with you.”

“No, you can’t risk losing the points you just earned,” Corbin says.

“Go, Harper,” Damon says. “We got this.”

Sadie grabs my arm and tugs me away from the guys. Reluctantly, I walk with her while keeping my gaze locked on them. I’m worried about Liam and I’m worried they’ll all get in trouble for something that was my fault.

“Harper,” Sadie says, grabbing my chin. She turns my head away from the guys and I’m staring right at the rank wall.

And there I am. In second place with Corbin, Sadie, Liam, and Damon rounding out the places under me.

Summoning and fighting a monster was a stupid idea but it worked. Staring at the wall makes it clear that I have to do it again. Only next time, I have to figure out how to do it myself.
