“What part do you have doubts about?”
“It’s not that I have doubts, Malik. I saw you on TV with her, with a hand around her waist, then the journalists said…”
He callously interrupts me, “excuse me for a second.”
Malik pulls a sleek cellphone from his pocket, taps on the screen for a few seconds, then shows me the name and number flashing. He’s calling the European woman!
I whisper-shout while the line rings on speaker, “what are you doing? Hang up!”
Then a soft, throaty voice answers. But her not is neither soft, nor sexy.
“Yes?”
“Hi Elena, it’s Malik.”
“I know who it is, I have caller Id. what do you want? Is it about the stupid donation to your little organization? Because I told my agent I’m done with types of arrangements. That was completely useless. The rumor of us getting back together didn’t even last till the end of the day…”
Ooh feisty…
“Okay, thank you. Bye now,” Malik interrupts her.
And she’s still complaining when he hangs up the phone, the ass.
Malik leans back into the couch, crossing his bulky arms behind his head and stretching his long legs in front of him.
“Told you, innocent.”
At last, I allow myself to drink him in, eat him up and slowly let loose of my anger and pain.
I tell him, “you messed up.”
“Big time,” he replies, his expression dead serious.
“you’re gonna have to give me time.”
“Take what you need from me. Anything. Always.”
I lean into his side and he stretches an arm behind me to engulf me in one of his amazing bear hugs.
I sniffle against his shirt.
“I missed you so much… so so much… I thought… I thought I lost you. That I never even had you. I thought we were all a lie.”
Malik shakes his head vehemently, taking my chin between his fingers to raise my face.
“Look at me. You’re fucking mine. I’m yours.”
Then he puts back all the pieces of my broken heart even better than they were before. He lays a large, warm hand on my belly and rests his forehead on mine.
“Both you and our child.”
