“You never told me your idea. About the proposal,” Hannah yelled back at me when we took off in different directions an hour later.

I turned to her and shouted.

“She’ll tell you about it later tonight.”

“Seriously?” she started jumping up and down again. “Tonight?”

I shrugged and smiled.

“I have everything I need. I’m not dragging this shit a minute longer.”

So I went back home, and I pealed the stupid daffodil from our living room wall. Some, and by some I mean a lot, of the paint came down with it.

She will be pissed.

I heard a key in the lock. She was coming home earlier than expected.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

I wasn’t ready. I had a whole thing planned. Peal the daffodil. Get a fancy dinner. Flowers. Candles. Shower and a new shirt.

All that gone with her putting the key in the fucking lock. I knew she would figure it out. Why the fuck did I peal the daffodil first? I could have done everything else I planned and she wouldn’t have found out.

Seconds later she was inside. Her eyes huge and pinned on the wall. Her mouth fell open as if to say something, but she closed it. I looked down at my hands. I got my sleeves rolled up to my elbows the way I knew she liked, so maybe the dirty shirt wasn’t so bad after all. I got the ring in my pocket. I got the girl I always wanted a few steps away from me.

“You always fuck up my plans, Clementine Hartley,” I half smirked her way.

“Oh yeah?” she asked and her voice cracked. She knew. Just like I thought she would.

“Every time I come up with a plan to make you mine, you tear it to pieces,” I shook my head and approached her slowly. “I planned to kiss you when we were fourteen, and you kissed another guy instead of me. I planned on making you my girlfriend when we were eighteen, and you moved an ocean away from me. And now…” I looked around the living room and laughed. “You managed to ruin my plans once again. Like a true nemesis. Always aiming for my downfall.”

I took her face in my hands, and I placed a quick kiss on her lips. They were trembling, and I looked into her eyes. She was about to cry.

“You know I hate it when you cry,” I said with a clenched heart just as her tears started falling down her face. I reached down to my pocket and fell on one knee. I had a totally different idea about what I was going to say to her. But my need to make her stop crying kicked in, and I improvised. “Nemesis, goddess of revenge and retribution,” Clem snort laughed and swiped away the tears with her hands. First task completed. “Will you marry your Narcissus? I was always yours, and you were always mine. Just marry me.”

She ran her hand through my hair, and I closed my eyes as the pleasure of her touch washed over me.

“Yes. I’ll marry you.”

I got up and took her in my arms and kissed the shit out of her. When we broke our kiss, she cocked her head thinking about something. Then she narrowed her eyes at me and said.

“Nemesis didn’t marry Narcissus.”

“Well,” I grinned down at her. “You’re smarter than that.”
