“No, not yet, but she will. I would never do anything to hurt her.”

I had to get my point across to Johnny, he was her brother and protecting her was always his top priority.

“I know you wouldn’t, or you would have me to deal with.”

Elijah’s cheeky smirk made me grin as he replied, “Don’t I know it.”

The fact that he hadn’t just ignored my digs at opening up in regard to Harlow proved to me how much she meant to him. The pair had grown to know each other throughout their lives even if their relationship was fast. Who was I to judge? If he could let me into the workings of his heart, then I had to be honest in the same respect back and reveal the reasons behind my sudden changed opinions. Harlow had managed to overcome so much in life it gave me the hope for my own heart all those miles away. I couldn’t deal with the added torment of knowing I had caused the friction between them.

“Elijah. Don’t let your heart break like mine did. Learn from your past mistakes, or you may never be able to fix it. I’ve already managed to do that myself and I can’t allow you to do the same.”

“Johnny, I didn’t know. Talk to me.”

I waited for more, but he shook his head and slid his mask into place locking away his emotions. I was only getting that small snippet no matter what I tried. Johnny had shut himself off for a reason and didn’t want pushing on matters. It didn’t stop the raging fire in his eyes from being extinguished though and I knew only one thing could have caused it, an issue of the heart. I swallowed deeply, hiding the rising feelings, and replied.

“It’s alright, mate. It’s not a situation to deal with now. Currently, Harlow is the priority. Now, shall we go back to the house so you can talk to her?”

Forty-Nine

Elijah

I wassure the worry was clear on my face; I wouldn't be able to rest until I saw my girl with my own eyes. It was gradual steps at first, but I couldn’t take the pace much longer. Taking Johnny’s nod of confirmation and his keys out of his hand, I ran the rest of the way to her. I was breathless and without a care in the world.

Those initial steps into the house brought the overjoyed feelings back to the front of my mind. The nightmares exhausted her and more than likely she would have crashed out. Johnny hadn’t mentioned it, but then I hadn’t asked his reasons and explanations that he had told Harlow for being at mine. I made my way up the stairs to her room and I noticed her bedroom door was closed. I knew she was in there, as I was drawn to her soul. I knocked on the door and waited for her reply.

“Go away, Johnny. I told you earlier, I don’t want to talk.”

I wasn’t disappointed with her sassy, curt reply, as it made me want to chuckle.

I stood my ground and had the urge to see her reaction to my presence. I knocked again, this time a little more loudly and pronounced. The huffed noise and the loud footsteps heading towards me made my dick harden in retaliation. My girl was on the warpath. The door flew open, and she flicked her head towards me when her sweet perfume hit my nose.

“I said leave me... Elijah?”

I rested my hand against the door frame, allowing my toned stomach to show as my shirt rose upwards. I struggled to control the growl from within, noticing her eyes trailing the length of my body.

“Hey, Har.”

I noticed her arms wrapping around herself, attempting to hide away from me as she grabbed her lip in her teeth, and she questioned.

“You’re here? It’s not a dream?”

I pulled her into my chest, as I allowed her the time to contemplate that I wasn’t a figment of her imagination. I wrapped my arms around her hips and trailed them down to her beautiful, rounded arse and shifted her body, so it was flush against mine. I whispered in her ear seductively.

“Now, Har, does that feel like a part of your dream or do I need to remind you of how good it feels?”

Without another word, she jumped and wrapped her legs around my waist as I heard a cough from behind me. I turned around with her still attached to me, hiding her face in my neck.

“I assume you’re all sorted now?”

Her giggles in my neck were hard to ignore, as if she was trying to get me to laugh along with her.

“What do you say?”

I knew I had put her on the spot and would pay for it later as I nestled her chin to look up at me. Her soft words were like music to my ears.

“Elijah Ingram, you’re mine.”

I couldn’t hold the words in as I dropped her to the floor, not giving a damn if Johnny was still standing there. He was already aware of my thoughts, but I saw him take heed down the stairs as if he knew what I was about to do.
