Randi

A brunch with my sister was exactly what I needed this morning. Not that I always enjoyed listening to her advice, because she was very blunt, but she did know me better than anyone else.

“I’m glad he’s not going to sue you, but I’m thinking there is something else going on,” she said.

“Samantha, he’s just being nice, understanding, that’s all,” I said, taking another bite of my eggs benedict.

“Nice has nothing to do with taking you to dinner last night. And now he’s cooking

dinner tonight. It is very…intimate.”

“Why do you make everything sound like it is…foreplay?” I asked.

“In a way, it is, or it can be. It’s all about how you respond. What did you say when he said he’d cook for you?” she asked.

“That’s I’d bring potato salad and wine,” I stated honestly.

She rolled her eyes. “Have I taught you nothing? You should’ve suggested a sweet, tasty dessert. And then show up with chocolate covered strawberries or something like that.”

“I could’ve done that. But since he only invited me over so that I can take down everything I put up in that room, it’d be a waste. Well not totally a waste. I do love strawberries,” I smiled.

“Wish you loved having sex as much as you do creating the sex rooms for others,” she sighed.

“Trust me, I do.”

“Could’ve fooled me. You went home to an empty bed last night instead of spending the night in his,” she stated.

“I just met the man Friday night and that meeting wasn’t so…smooth. The only sparks flying at that time was anger and frustration, not the good kind either. Even if I find the man attractive, I’m keeping this totally professional,” I stated firmly.

“Hmm. I wonder how many professional meetings you’ve brought your famous potato salad to?”

Smart ass.

“I’m just being…”

“Nice?” she teased. I glared at her and snickered. “Just saying that you have used that word so many times when referring to him that I’m wondering if you’re trying to convince yourself or me.”

“Convince you of what?” I reluctantly asked.

“That you like him. Yes, he might be nice, but you deal with a lot of nice people. There’s definitely an attraction that you’re pretending doesn’t exist,” she stated

And I’m going to keep pretending until I’ve taken everything down from that room and our business dealings are over.

“Samantha….”

“You haven’t called me Samantha ever. It’s driving me crazy. Just call me Sam,” she demanded.

“I know, but his name is Sam and calling you Sam is confusing. Feels weird,” I said.

She raised a brow. “Really? It’s just a name, unless you are lusting after him and worried that you’ll be screaming, Sam, Sam, oh God, Sam!” she said in an orgasmic tone, then laughed.

I looked around the diner, hoping that no one heard her, but all eyes were on our table. I was mortified and if I’d have already paid the bill, I’d get up and bolt out of there. Worst of all, this was our hometown, and I was sure several patrons knew who we were.

Guess I’m going to need to find another breakfast joint.

“Sam…keep your voice down, please.”
