“Oh, I can spot a stud a mile away,” she winked.

“Very funny. We’re not talking about men. I am serious. You might want to do my job, but you aren’t qualified,” I stated honestly.

“What I am good at is marketing and you know that. I was doing that when you first started this company. Give me a chance to show you that I can still do it,” she said.

It hadn’t been her fault that the company she’d been working for went bankrupt. Marketing jobs were tough to find, and she ended up following in my footsteps and trying something new. Waiting on tables wasn’t her calling either, no matter what she said she was making in tips.

“Guess if you don’t want to hire me, I can always go to the Doll House and become a stripper,” she said.

“You wouldn’t,” I gasped, not knowing if she was just using it as an empty threat. Samantha was unpredictable at times and her judgement wasn’t always the best.

“If you don’t hire me, what choice will I have?” she asked.

“You could find another job doing something else,” I stated.

“Why can’t I answer your phone and schedule your appointments for you. You know I am excellent at organization,” she said.

“True, but family shouldn’t work together.” Because when it goes wrong, what happens to us as sisters?

“It’s only temporary, until I find a real job. Maybe a week or two at the most. What do you think? Are you willing to take pity on your sister and let me help you?” she asked.

Help me? I thought I was helping you.

I knew she wouldn’t be without employment for long. Samantha was resourceful and actually best suited for marketing. I just wish she’d realize that and go back to it.

“How about I agree to give you a job as long as you are actively seeking employment in marketing again.” It was the best I could offer her, a job and a not so gentle nudge in the right direction.

“Fine. Since it’s not like your phones are ringing off the hook, I can look for work while working for you,” she said.

I was already regretting this and she hadn’t even started. She’s my sister. She’d do the same for me.

If it wasn’t for the push Samantha had given me a few years ago, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

And I might not have ever met Sam Bethel either.

I owed her. “Okay, since you’re here, let’s get you started.”

“What do you want me to do?” she asked.

“How about making some coffee,” I said.

“That’s in my job description?” she asked.

I shook my head. “No. That’s in your big sister needs coffee so she doesn’t snap at you all morning.”

Samantha got up and said, “Strong coffee coming right up. And after your shower, you can tell me all about your wild night last night.”

I rolled my eyes and walked away.

Please let her find a job soon.
