“How about the diner, same as yesterday? I will even call and tell them to hold us a table,” I said.

She snickered. “I know another place that is less busy. How about I pick up lunch and meet you at the park?”

“The park?”

“Yes, they have a lovely gazebo and it’s by the pond. No one ever sits there,” she said.

“Sounds great.”

“See you there in twenty minutes,” she said and ended the call.

I had no idea what she was picking up for lunch, but I didn’t care. Turning the truck around I headed for the park. When I pulled in, I noticed she was right. The playground area was filled with families watching their children play, but there was no one by the gazebo. I parked my truck beside it and went to wait for Randi.

This was the second day in a row that I took a long lunch. I wasn’t paid by the hour, but by the job. That meant I had to make sure I finished the job to get the final payment. I’d promised the customer that it would be complete by Wednesday. That gave me one more day. I’d never not hit my deadline but if I kept this up, it might be the first time. Even though I wanted to spend time with Randi, I still needed to focus on work.

Her car pulled in and she came out holding a bag and carrying two iced coffees. “Hope you like meatball subs,” she said.

“Sounds great.” I took one from her and she sat down beside me. “You really didn’t have to go through all this trouble. I know you’ve got a lot on your plate too. That’s why I left you lunch at your house.”

She looked puzzled. “You left food at my house?”

I nodded. “Not long before you called.”

Randi shook her head. “Funny how my sister failed to mention it. She’s probably eating it right now.”

Probably didn’t want to wait for her pizza to be delivered.

“Too bad. It would’ve saved you the trouble of stopping somewhere else.” But maybe if Samantha had told you, then you and I wouldn’t be sitting here right now.

“It’s no trouble and we both are super busy. And that was so thoughtful of you to bring me lunch. Maybe I’ll eat it for dinner, if my sister doesn’t eat it before me.” I nodded and Randi added, “I wanted to see you especially after…last night. I know you had to leave because of work this morning, but I was hoping that you…you…”

“Please don’t say having regrets, because I sure as hell don’t. And you’re right, it wasn’t right that I had to leave so suddenly. I should’ve stayed the night because once I was home in my own bed, all I could do was stare at the ceiling wishing you were still there in my arms.”

She smiled and said, “I didn’t sleep either. Sam, I don’t want you to think that I’m always so…bold. I might sell sex toys, and designed sex rooms, but I’ve…”

“Never used one before?” I didn’t believe that for a minute.

“Oh, I use them all the time, just not with anyone else, if you know what I mean,” she said shyly.

This should feel like an awkward conversation, yet it didn’t. There was such a comfortable feeling with us that even discussing masturbation didn’t feel weird. How is it that I’ve only known her for less than a week and it feels like months?

“For the record, I’ve never used any toys before, so it was a first for me as well.”

“Really?” I nodded. It wasn’t because I was opposed to them, but a woman has to be very confident and comfortable with her own sexuality to be so open with the man she is dating. Randi added, “Guess it’s never too late to try something new.”

“You’re right. Just let’s take it slow. Nothing…too outrageous,” I said. I couldn’t picture ever being comfortable enough to let anyone, even Randi, tie me down and whip my bare ass. Not my thing and never will be.

She raised a brow. “Already thinking about the next time?” she asked.

“I was thinking about the next time even before I closed my eyes last night. You’re all I’ve been able to think about since I met you. How is it that you have gotten under my skin so fast?” I asked.

“I don’t know. I’m not one who believes in fate. I believe we make our own luck, choose our own paths. And I sure don’t want to give your friend Bob any credit for making this happen either,” she said.

“Me either. I am still pissed at him, yet, if he hadn’t pulled this stupid, immature prank, then I never would’ve met you,” I said.

“Probably not. We have lived in the same town all these years, eat at some of the same places, and still, I never crossed paths with you.”

I reached out and tipped her chin up so I could look directly into her beautiful blue eyes. “It doesn’t matter when or how we met, I’m just glad we did.” I kissed her tenderly.
